Swedish gambling bill adopted

(PRESS RELEASE) -- The Swedish gambling bill that will open up the online market has been adopted by the parliament.
The bill was approved after a debate in the Swedish parliament on Thursday with 282 votes for and only 19 against.
The bill will introduce a licensing system for online gambling under a tax rate of 18 percent of gross gambling revenue.
The new law will enter into force on January 1, 2019, but licensing applications will be accepted from August 1, 2018.
Secondary legislation is still being scrutinised by the European Commission and additional rules and regulation are still expected from the Swedish Gambling Authority.
