I encounter this also. Tho my wife understands, and finds it interesting, I suspect at times that she, and others around me, wonders how I can be doing any actual work. It looks more like research (a lot of it) reading forum threads and stuff like that that eats up time. That is, until she sees the checks, and the actual sites I've created, and I tell her about all the people who actually visit the sites, from all over the world (which still amazes me, even).
Still, it's different to be working like this instead of in a regular job, and hard for anyone who is not of this frame of mind to understand. I've worked my share of regular jobs, and much prefer this.
