Hi Greek -
One of the many, many lessons I've learned is to not get too caught up in some of the non-profitable activities. I used to spend hours checking stats... too much time on forums... Tracking down some funny looking hits to my sites... etc... None of those enhance profit. And until you have the profitable search engine rankings, you have nothing to defend from the blackhatters.
And if you like tracking down the bad guys more than the webmaster aspects - I bet a few people would love to hire you to seek and destroy those who violate their basic intellectual properties. You certainly have a very valuable skill in finding these guys... Although I always recommend taking the high road opposed to whatever vengeance you may be referring to.
