    affCAFF Bug Report by Jalle

    Dear Michael and CityG.

I adore this script and been testing it since beginning of my site ( in 2006) Unfortunately never managed to fully utilize it.

This is what I have done:

    1. changed affCAFF folder and every other file from 777 to 755 because my hosting (siteground) doesnt allow higher permissions. If this is the problem for your script not running then I have to contact SG probabbly.

    2. http://www.bestbonusmoney.com/affCAFF/acManager.php
There I receive this error "500 - Internal Server Error"

    COMPLETE ERROR LOG HERE
[2010-10-18 08:16:08]: error: directory is writable by others: (/home/bonus201/public_html/affCAFF)
[Mon Oct 18 08:36:49 2010] [alert] [client 77.74.227.132] /home/bonus201/public_html/affCAFF/.htaccess: Invalid command '<!DOCTYPE', perhaps mis-spelled or defined by a module not included in the server configuration
    3. Uploaded php.ini with "register_globals = On" in every folder.

    4. Tried with Jscript but not working also

Could you please check and tell me what is wrong.
I believe it is not big issue , maybe you can solve it , please?

    Regards

    Hi Jalle,

We've had a recent adjustment to part of the system as of one week ago. I believe the issue you're experiencing may be completely or partially resolved by the recent updates. For example, your http://www.bestbonusmoney.com/affcaff.html now contains some Affcaff-generated text where previously I believe it create an error result or was blank.

Could you try the installation again and let me know whether the errors continue or are resolved?

    Yours,
    Steven

    Hi Steven

I made fresh install and funny thing is that installer changes all files to permission 777 . That permission is by default not allowed at siteground, and thus script doesn't work. Can you do something about this ?

Although I changed back permission to 755 this link still not working

Can ouy give me some advice ?

Or if you agree I can PM you with site login details and you can check by your own, I would appreciate it.

    Hi Jalle,

I appreciate your providing an update about the problem you're seeing. I received your PM and am sending you an email with some testing steps that should help confirm what is working correctly and where the problem is occurring.

    Thanks,
    Steven

    Jalle,

It seems pretty clear from your post that you are installing the whole affCAFF application, and not simply using affCAFF snippets.

When we took over the affCAFF application we made a decision that we would support affCAFF snippets over the near-term, but our objective is to create a much more complete system that will replace the overall affCAFF application over the longer term.

There are a few reasons we made a decision not to support the full affCAFF application when we took over the operation and updating of the system. First, our understanding was that supporting the application was not that easy (as evidenced by the fact that you have had trouble trying to get it to work for a few years before we took over responsibility for the application). Additionally, our staff does not focus on php/unix applications, so it would have been difficult for us to provide strong support for the general application. The new system we are developing is based on rss feeds and web services provided using a software back-end based on our areas of expertise.

As far as I know, however, the full affCAFF application does work fine, so it may be just that your installation is suffering from restrictions imposed on priviliges the application is granted by your ISP. However, I cannot promise the application would work in your environment if the privilige restrictions were removed.

While we do not have a planned release date for the new version of affCAFF we are developing, it will allow us to deliver many of the more advanced features the full affCAFF system was intended to deliver without some of the complexities that made that system a challenge to use.
