Default Americas Card Room under another DDOS attack

I am just reading about this all over the internet:

    Name: Captura de pantalla 2018-05-01 a la(s) 8.56.50.jpg
Views: 1
Size: 35.2 KB

“At this moment we are experiencing a DDOS attack, our techs are working in order to mitigate it. All Running tournaments have been paused. Apologies for the inconvenience,” ACR posted at 9:19 am on Thursday.
"In many instances, these attacks are motivated by financial gain where the attacker asks for a ransom for the attacks to stop. However, it’s our policy to never pay ransom regardless of the cost, as we will never give in to cyber terrorism."
Depending on the status of the mitigation, some events in the tournament schedule may be cancelled while we gain full control of the situation.

I guess that's to blame for the lack of affiliate contact or payments for March's commissions?

They were on a pretty good roll for a few months there, getting commissions paid to the archaic player account system by the 10th-15th. This is the first time I can remember them failing to pay in the next calendar month.

No. I am to blame for that. Seriously

There was a bug in March's numbers that another affiliate asked me about. I confirmed it and contacted WPN. This was early April. Commissions usually come mid / mid-late month for the prior month and well, we have to wait while they get MyAffiliates to fix the bug and redo the numbers.

The bug, if you wish to confirm it, is in any rakeback accounts you may have. There is a "Points" column that should have very little activity as it applies to VIP program players (sometimes a tiny bit bleeds over when someone swaps to rakeback). However, in April, these points were, for some of us, thousands of dollars worth of deductions from rakeback players.

Effectively, it destroyed large amounts of rakeback commissions. It also affected players I believe though I did not personally confirm that.

With regard to the DDoS on The Winning Poker Network, yup. Since March Madness. Same attacks aimed at BetOnline, SportsBetting.ag, Ignition Casino, Bovada, Bodog too...

We did an interview with the Tournament Director of Winning Poker Network a couple days ago and discussed the DDoS a bit. It's the same old **** that has been happening to offshore sites (and more prominent sites like Microgaming poker skins, iPoker skins, and even PokerStars) since 2014 at least (when we first wrote about the topic).

Funny, I actually thought you were ribbing me at first until I kept reading.

Thanks for providing the details on that. It's a good reason to have to recalculate accurate commissions, but, you know, they could just send out an email letting affiliates know?

It really has felt like someone's been asleep at the wheel over there for a few months now.

About the DDoS stuff, I've definitely noticed it at all the US-facing sites over the past month or so. Affiliate links not working, domains down entirely, Cloudflare stuff they're trying to implement, software not launching, etc.

I agree. It is irresponsible of them not to have sent an email out. *sigh*

FYI, I was just told that the fix is complete and that the re-importing of data is to take place immediately. Payouts to follow when completed.

FYI, this email went out to all affiliates a few hours after I posted above

Dear Affiliate,We wanted to keep you informed about the delay in your MarchAffiliate commissions. We are close to rectifying the issue to credit you for the outstanding money owed.

As you are most likely aware, our network has been undergoing a series of Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks over the past week by an unknown third party. While this has disrupted gameplay, the attacks are completely unrelated to the technical issue that we’re rectifying in order to credit you your payment.

Furthermore, the issue that we encountered in March’s payment will not force the same kind of delay for April’s commissions. Once resolved, both payments will be issued in a timely manner.

We appreciate your ongoing patience and loyalty while we work to restore all systems to full strength. We will email you as soon as we credit your account with your outstanding balance.

    Kind regards,
    WPN Affiliates Team

LOL, I actually don't get any of those. I'll have to bring that up to them, although my response times from WPN vary from 2 weeks to never.

Good luck getting the players to believe that. Forums abound with hate. There are even a bunch of conspiracy theories on 2+2 about WPN faking a DDoS because:

    their software sucks
the overlays on the MDS tournaments
the overlays on all their tournaments
its cover for a cut and run
    they are insolvent

All of which I believe to be ridiculous ideas. But good luck getting the masses to understand the scale and scope of current DDoS attacks that can take down Microsoft, but we expect a small CR company to fend off with ease...

I agree with you, Prof, that those sorts of conspiracy theories have literally been thrown at every online poker site ever, but I don't blame players for being a bit paranoid about WPN right now. There's been a lot of smoke with the cheating bot ring allegations and now this. Then from our end, the affiliate program sort of seems to be in shambles right now.

I think it's cool they aren't paying the ransom, though. I read a story recently where a police chief actually told a school district that was having its files held hostage to just pay the Bitcoin ransom. I think that's the first time I've heard that before:

    https://www.cbsnews.com/news/school-...massachusetts/

I think they're going to be fine and I trust them more or less, but I don't blame players for being a bit uneasy with them right now. Heck, I'm frustrated myself.

Since I don't get their affiliate emails for whatever reason, if someone could post up when the March payment finally gets in, I would appreciate it. Beats battling DDoS'ers to check my player account cashier every day.

FYI, They have now paid both March and April commissions in the last 3 days and everything is back up to date.

The website seems to be a little glitchy and non-responsive every once in a while. Hopefully, it's not getting hit anymore. It's definitely better than it was only one week ago. The page wouldn't even load.
