Default Anthony Bourdain dies at the age of 61

Today I read the very sad news that Anthony Bordain took his own life. He apparently hanged himself in a hotel room in France where he was filming a show for his television series, "Parts Unknown". He was such a genuine and down to earth person who was an inspiration to many. Rest in Peace !!

    Sad when anyone dies.

For those like me that didn't know who Anthony Bourdain was.

Very sad. Watching him I learned to live in a different wat, travel without the tourist guide, know local music, food and drinks.

    May he rest in peace

A person who commits suicide don't care about others...
Too much money makes people depressed. I try to keep my account below five-million dollars so I don't jump off a tall building...

Nobody force him to do this...on the end, i dont care.

    Regards

"I respect people that practice as they preach . . . but hypocritical religious types make me angry . . . I'm closer to Hitchens' view on this. Many of the world's ills can be tracked back to [religion]."

    Anthony Bourdain

Truer words have never been said. RIP brother I hope all the Twitter trolls get run over by a car.

Depression, despair, drugs and/or mental illness can do that to people. I don't believe that most people who commit suicide were in their right frame of mind during the act. I mostly feel sorry for the little girl that he left behind.

You could see the sadness in that guy's face he had been through hell and back.

I have never understood how people are able to commit suicide. I feel very sorry for the guy.

My Brother committed suicide and he loved his children more than anything but he felt he had been a bad father and that they would be better off without him.
Obviously his thoughts were wrong, but sometimes people get into such a dark place that they simply cannot see the light and believe they are not worthy of their families love.

Depression is a selfish illness I agree with that, but it is an illness and I feel very sorry for anyone who gets it and who takes that ultimate step to end their own life. What a terrible place that must be. RIP that man.

I do not agree. Suicide is usually a selfish act. There are exceptions like jumping onto a grenade that is about to kill your friends or suicide of conspirators who know they will be tortured and others will die because they will talk.

What your brother did was selfish. He maybe did not know it and tried to frame it as "help", but it does not change the fact it was selfish. I also tried to kill myself by jumping from high building and survived only to understand that I was selfish as well.

If anyone does not like the world or the impact of himself to the world, then go and change it. Maybe you have to be lower than the worm, but there is never late.

I know a guy who went from rich to broke. His family is in disarray, they have regular fights even with a small daughter involved. That guy is thinking about suicide and he will maybe do it. But he is not thinking about other alternatives like divorce and moving to richer country to make money "because he loves his daughter so much, that he can not live without her".

That is a typical kind of behavior. And it is totally cowardish. Instead he has to show the way to his daughter. Even if he never makes it anywhere, he has to show the courage to fight with the hard life, even when it kicks him out of comfort zone [yes, even such people have the comfort zone and they kill themselves because their ego can not bear the life out of it].
The most sad thing is when cat dies.

Life is suffering. Most people would kill themselves they're just too much of a coward to pull the trigger.

I truly believe that clinical depression is an illness.
Clinical depression can be almost startling and hard to understand, because people with a normal, happy life can be struck down with it and just want to end their life.

I think that is slightly different than somebody having a bunch of bad life circumstances and wanting to end their life. That's a slightly different thing, in my opinion. It's kind of a 'depression' with a direct causation i.e. if they can improve certain life factors they'll probably feel better.

    I think way more than 10% ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_Happiness_Report )

Besides that, not considering yourself happy and living ≠ "just too much coward to pull the trigger".

Some people who were trapped in the Twin Towers on 911 faced two horrors: burn to death or jump to death. Which is the more acceptable of these two horrors?

Some people, for whatever reason, view living their life in a similar way: the horror of the act of suicide or the horror of continuing with their life. It is not for us to judge their actions.
