Antigua, US set another deadline to resolve WTO dispute

Yet another deadline has been set for the US and Antigua to resolve the trade dispute over Internet gambling. Supposedly it will all be sorted out by Friday.

This is about the 13th time a deadline has been set, so wake Buzzy up if something actually does happen this week ... yawn.

The Antigua Sun is reporting that Antigua and the US have requested to extend the WTO's deadline to resolve their Internet gambling dispute until July 11. Antigua Finance Minister Errol Court says progress is being made, but won't say what the sticking points are.

"There are still a number of areas that we need to finalise, but in the view of the parties, we are making good progress and we just need some more time to see how we could finalise certain key areas and issues,” Dr. Cort said. He told the SUN it was against this backdrop that the agreement to extend the deferral at the WTO was reached.


“The extension, just like the last one, is not an extremely long one because we want to keep parties actively engaged at the table, utilising all efforts to resolve the issues and arrive at an amicable settlement,” the finance minister said.
