Default Aus govt. banned bonus bets, advice on new direction for site

    Hello all,

My site bonusbettingsites com au promoted sign up bonus bets until the Australian government banned such advertising nation-wide.
Needless to say after having to remove content and keywords related to bonus bets, and the general situation traffic has dropped for those keywords.
Should I start a new website targeting a different keyword? Or should I undertake SEO on new keywords from my current site which has a DA of 23 and some decent rankings already for other keywords.

In no case start a new website. The same thing happened in Greece. Work out new keywords, use the mind intelligently to be legally bound.

I have 0 understanding in Aus market, but wanted to ask if it makes a difference if your site is .com.au or just .com. I mean if you could keep going if the site was not with Aus gtld?

My opinion is that it does not play a role, it is the same, language is more important

Yeah the situation in Australia with the more strict legislation on bonus inducements has definitely had an impact on new signup figures.

However, I've found that although the number of new signups has decreased, the quality of signups coming on board has actually more than made up for any decrease with a lot of our affiliates.

Particularly for sites that ranked at or near the top of search engine rankings for free bet keywords before bonus inducements were banned, some of these sites were having more negative months than positive as they were getting hammered by bonus arbers which was becoming more and more prevalent. Those same sites are seeing upward trends with us now which is good to see.

For those that don't follow the Australian side of things that closely, gambling over here is massive, per capita we're probably the biggest gamblers in the world. As a result the competition is pretty fierce, and the bonus offers available were becoming pretty insane.

Instead of the 50 or 100 matched first deposits, it wasn't that uncommon to see bookies offering $1000 or more matched on first deposits. So in recent years more and more people were catching on and bonus arbing was becoming much more common, with loads of websites and Facebook groups teaching everyday people how to arb promos.

So while it does make things much more challenging to get new clients to sign up and bet, the flipside of that is you don't have loads of bonus abusers chipping away at your earnings each month. Plus bookmakers can now free up a lot of those bonus bet resources that they can instead pump into client retention of their better quality members.
