"Maturity" as what mostly say about old/expired domain. It can be beneficial because Google likes old sites but make sure to purchase old but established sites with decent and good backlinks.

Sometimes expired domain get banned as soon as Google recognizes they have changed topic...

Old expired domains are good for your own use.Minute somebody tries to make money for them like sell links or make a directory they usually get reported and worthless next PR.We own a Audio Book Franchaise so we try to buy older domains based on audiobooks we sell.We have found few nice business domains but expect to pay $3000 for a 10+ years old pr4 site.

That's exactly what I was after. I'll check out the deleteddomains tool.

A free one is www.stuckdomains.com - I have never used it to actually buy a domain, just played with the search function on there. It has a link report button for the domains it finds which is handy.
