BetOnSports founder out of prison

Gambling911 is reporting that Gary Kaplan, the founder of BetOnSports.com, has completed his prison sentence and is now out of jail.

BetOnSports and nearly a dozen of its executives were indicted in July of 2006 just prior to the passage of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA) in October of that same year. Charges included racketeering, money laundering and mail fraud.

Kaplan was captured in the Dominican Republic nearly six months after the indictment had been issued. He was arrested and placed behind bars in St. Louis. Ultimately, Kaplan was sentenced to just over one year’s prison time.

Former CEO David Carruthers served an even longer period of time in detention, though much of that was under house arrest outside of St. Louis. Carruthers was also recently released from prison.

Good for them. BOS was a great book and they had just started a new Affiliate program when all of this happened. I was really looking forward toworking with the affiliate managers who were running the new program. I worked with them before and they were pretty cool.

Back to topic though, that is good news about their release.
