I am wondering whether I should add this game to my site. I have no idea about the game nor about its market potential, but somehow I keep on thinking about this funny game.

Mahjong is brilliant, highly addictive and by all accounts loved immensely by the Asians, i would love to get in on this game big time on the internet but i cannot help thinking that the target market is Asia and marketing to that demographic sector would be very difficult indeed.

I am wondering now if a sportsbook has it as a game, i played it a lot on gamesduell and so it is certainly out there.

suppose a starting point would be to see what sportsbook do offer it as a game and see if i can somehow link to it/integrate it etc.

I wish you luck in your endeavour and if you do go for it would certainly be interested in your progress

Hey Nandakishore. I was in a similar position a few months ago. It was a choice between mahjong, gin rummy or pot limit omaha.

i ended up learning mahjong from scratch and really fell in love with the game. i still dont think it has the subtle beauty of nl holdem but its still quite interesting and has a strong skill element.

i ended loving it so much that i started a whole new mahjong forum to try making some money promoting it. bbbbbut i can give you the honest coment that the online mahjong world is no where near as well organised as the online poker world. I think that none of online mahjong sites have quite hit critical mass. so you have a couple of of online mahjong sites that have only a small active community of players. still it is a hugely popular game in asia, so perhaps in the long run there is still market opportunity.

if your still interested, the biggest english site is Mahjong times and they do have a affiliate program through income access.

pm if u ever want to play

btw feel free to post any mahjong or gambling articles on my forum, still looking for lots of content and posters

The akagi series is really good, although I only went through one of them. I am now getting more and more interested in this game.

Just like poker, mahjong has several versions. the version of mahjong played in akagi is more japanese style or riichi style mahjong. There are hong kong style, chinese official, european and american rules. there are actually more variants. But I believe outside of the US, hong kong and riichi styles are the most popular.

i think this is part of the reason why mahjong isnt as strong as poker, there isnt a single style of mahjong that really dominates like no limit holdem in poker.

there is a variation called American Mahjong but as i udnerstand it there are three major variations of this. but you still get alot american asians playing hong kong, japanese and chinese official. American Mahjong variations are strong among in the jewish american and armed services communities.

The strongest variation of American Mahjong is played by a card (NMJL Card). This card is issued every year by National Mahjong League.

    Regarding the other styles:
Hong Kong Style - mostly played and recommended for the newbies.
Chinese Official Style - all Official National and International Tournaments are played based on Chinese Official Rules.
Riichi - (Modern version of Japanese) the most interesting version of mahjong from my point of view.

By the way guys, do you play online mahjong? I play on Mahjong Time.
