    Bodog applies for UK license

    In a surprising move, Bodog has applied for a license to operate in the UK.

    Very few Internet gambling operators have chosen to do so because of the hefty 15% tax rate imposed by new Prime Minister Gordon Brown.

    Bodog's chances of success seem remote, since they still take bets from US customers.

    Just never know with Bodog they have beaten the odds in so many different areas. I hope they obtain an UK license.

    If they get it do you think it could be their exit from the US market? I can't imagine them doing both.

    I'd imagine that they'd spin the UK facing entity off as a wholly owned subsidary - allowing it to operate it's co.uk site according to UK laws ...

    while continuing to operate .com according to (ahem) Kahnawakee legislation.

    Yes I doubt they would enter a new ground not knowing how it will work out and give up their old operation they are used to. Will be interesting to see who else will go this way. The only problem I can see here in the Uk is things change quickly like the manchester casino decision. If loads of gaming companies move over to the UK maybe the government will try and get involved increasing taxes etc. All I know is Gordon Brown changes his mind regularly and likes to take more money off the wealthy businesses. The UK is a tax haven for foreigners yet gordon brown soon pushed up the amount they have to pay as soon as loads came over. The UK is currently full of the worlds super rich using it as a tax haven and it will be interesting to see what happens here.

    What goes to the government / licensing jurisdiction does not go to the players or the affiliates!!!

    Anyone confused? I know I am.

    Currently Bodog.co.uk operates under an Antigua license and services UK players (Antigua is a UK white-listed jurisdiction) as well as a mish-mash of European and South Pacific countries depending on the geo-routing that Bodog Brand has put in place.

    Now according to your link) ...
    Bodog UK received the remote and non-remote gaming license from the UK Gambling Commission and the site will operate from Bodog.co.uk exclusively for customers in the UK.
    Bodog.co.uk will run exclusively for UK players only?
    WTF happens to the existing players from non-uk locations that currently route to bodog.co.uk then?

    The thing that has me most interested is the non-remote license that has been issued. Is Bodog planning on opening a land based casino in the UK?

    Glad that you asked. Ok, here's how it will work in a few months once everything is sorted on our side:

    Bodog UK, licensed in the UK, will be geo-routed to accept UK players only.
    Bodog Europe and Bodog Canada will remain licensed in Antigua and will accept European players (minus the UK) and Canadian players respectively.

    Does this make sense?

    Yep got that thanks ...

    Europe = Bodog.eu
    Canada = Bodog.ca
    UK = Bodog.co.uk

    All clear and obvious ... but that still leaves a few holes in the global coverage ....

    What about Asia?
    and the rest of the planet - good markets in Australia, South Africa, New Zealand ...
    And of course ... ahem .. that other large group of players ... shall we call them "Southern Canadians" ?

    Are they all lumped in with bodog.eu in future ?

    The non-remote license is for the operation of sports betting premises only and wouldn't allow Bodog UK to open a casino.

    Hey Gooner,

    Ok, not exactly. Here is the situation at present:

    -Bodog Europe, licensed in Antigua, accepts players from UK & Europe at bodog.co.uk and players from Canada at bodog.ca.
    -Haydock Entertainment/Bodog Asia, licensed in Philippines, accepts players from Asia at bodog88.com
    -Morris Mohawk Gaming Group (MMGG), licensed in Kahnawake, accepts players from USA and anywhere else that does not fall under the above at bodog.eu.

    Very shortly, under the new UK license that has just been granted, Bodog UK will accept UK players at bodog.co.uk. I am not exactly sure how Bodog UK and Bodog Europe will handle URLs and geo-targeting just yet but I am positive that Bodog UK will operate at bodog.co.uk and ONLY accept UK players.

    Make sense?

    Once again BoDog shows the competition HOW it is bleeping DONE!!! Great move and just another brilliant stroke by the masterminds that run BoDog. This company just gets it done from top to bottom. Treats players great. Treats affiliates great. And has done so for 15 plus years.
