Bodog ready for major push in U.K.

MarketingWeek is reporting that Bodog is preparing to launch a multi-million pound marketing campaign in the U.K. in an effort to grab a share of the lucrative online casino and sportsbetting option.

    From MarketingWeek:

The increase in activity follows the appointment of Former Visa and Sony Ericsson marketer Dee Dutta as chief marketing officer earlier this year.

Dutta says:”The UK is the largest regulated market in the world today and we want to be part of that.

“The decision was not taken on market share. The key thing is to develop trust with the UK customer. This is one of the most important things for the industry.”

About time - given their low profile - they can't rank much worse.

Currently Bodog are effectively a one-market brand - NORTH AMERICA - and they seem to be planning on exiting half of that at the end of the year replacing it with some unknown, unannounced team.

i agree makes no sense. Launch the new brand in europe and keep the current brand in north america. No one knows who bodog is outside of usa and canada anyway.

I am in the Bodog affiliate program, and got this in the mail today :

    Posting the first bit :

    Dear affiliate,

We are writing to inform you that as of Thursday 1st December 2011, the Bodog Affiliate program will be managed and administered by a new third party supplier, Betting Partners.

    <little piece cut away>

You'll soon receive details of your new Betting Partners affiliate account. ALL of your tagged player accounts will be migrated to your new account so you won't miss out on any of your commissions, which will continue to be paid as normal going forward. The Bodog Affiliate system will also remain in place for a period of six months following the transition to allow you to access all of your historical reports.

So I take it Bodog is gonna go?

They could spend a billion on advertising in the UK - I still wouldn't work with them.

i also think they are going to get a wake up call. In America they have no competition. Who are they competing against bet online and intertops? No offense to those two as they are good brands, but in europe there's more than 2 competitors

To be fair, they do have some small amount of brand recognition in the UK as they sponsor West Bromwich Albion with a shirt deal and have some tie up with Fulham Football Club. However, I do agree with the points made so far in this thread - they're going to struggle against the real players over here.

What they will need to do is offer better odds - rarely have I found the most value at Bodog compared with other bookies. That's critical to gaining market share among online gamblers.

MMGG, the company that owns the bodog.eu software and operations will be rebranding itself as of Jan 1 and the new brand will be managed under the Betting Partners affiliate program. The rest of the bodog brand licensees will also be managed under the Betting Partners affiliate program. More information will be coming out from the Affiliate team in the coming days, I just wanted to confirm that the bodog brand name is leaving the US market but will be very much present in the UK, Canada and Asia.

    Thanks,
    Becky

it's a mistake to have a separate brand for Canada vs USA, as both bettors frequent 99% of the same sites. Those will will not promote bodog for 10% of the visitors to the website.
