Building links for a new site

I am trying to build up my links pages with exchanges from other sites, but am finding it difficult because my site is just a few months old.

I realize that establised websites/webmasters will be reluctant to swap links with a new site as it offers no immediate benefit as an increase in traffic or improvement in SERPS... but surely long term it is worth it ??

Could anyone offer any advice please.... ?? Am i a bit premature in starting a link swapping campaign, and should i concentrate on site/content building for now ?? Or is it something i should be doing from the start ??

They do say that content is King, however I believe that links are the Queen!

Check out services such as http://www.linkmarket.net/ as a good way to build up the inbound links.

buy links at ebay for a few months, then when google pushes you up then generate zillions of links and stop buying

Or just about any other content page? I would only ask for a straight text link with only 2 or 3 keyword anchor text and would provide you with a similar link back from the footer of one of my content pages....

I could point the link back to you at your home page, or any internal page you chose, as long as the keyword text matches on both ends.
