Clicks vs Downloads vs sign ups

I have noticed that a few sites that I promote have weird stats. One example of this is a new top game casino that I am promoting. In my forum I have a No deposit bonus for $5.00 and the link to this promotion is a direct download link. Today I checked my stats to find this:

    12 clicks
    12 downloads
    5 sign ups

I'm a bit confused as to how the sign ups is only 5 when there are 12 downloads.

This is at many programs and not just this one that is my example.

Many clicks, many downloads but few sign ups.

My question is at what point do the players decide not to sign up? Does a player see the bonus, click the banner, download and then all of a sudden go no thanks ?

    Just seems weird.
    Until we meet again.

Two possible explanations that could account for some of this :

    1) Failed download?
I beleive the download number simply count downloads that have started - not always completed.

Many of these casino downloads seem a bit tempermental. So if someone clicks and gets a failed download then they may reclick to get a fresh one?

    2) Anonymous fun play possible?
Additionally it may be possible that you can "play for fun" anonymously - or at least not have to put in an email address or password. I beleive that most systems don't count that as a "sign-up".

I'm sure other affiliates can think of other things that they've seen?!

I know on some affiliate networks that when you click on the link to go to the casino website that the link is in fact to download the software and a lot of people cancel here but it still counts as a download in your stats as it has activated the file. 5 signups from 12 downloads is actually not too bad I think. How many of those 5 signups converted to a sale?

Some casinos dont credit some parts of their sites to affiliates, be sure to check out the rules...

Some (if not all) of the Rival casinos have an immediate download start when you visit the download page. Like others have said, the figure is often regardless of whether the download is completed.

That said, the ones that seem weird to me are the people that go ahead through the entire sign up process then never deposit.
