Conversion rate with a keyword 'FREE *'

As you can understand from my username, my website targets among the rest a keyword 'free slots' Since its launch 5 months ago the traffic has been steadily growing, exactly as I imagined. Last month I had approx. 800 uniques, which brought me about 30 signups across all the brands but not even one depositor. I wondered, what average conversion rate from signups to deposits I should expect, and whether this rate can be affected by the keyword which includes the word 'free' (I heard from one source this can weaken the conversion, but I need more opinions). I would appreciate any answer.

This is actually discussed here fairly regularly so do a bit of searching for additional opinions....

Yes the word "free" will not always bring the best conversions...

I think it's difficult to give a specific % of conversion rate since there are soooo many factors that affect that....

Like which casino, what sign up offer appealed to the visitor, what software, the geographic location of the signup, and....., and...., and.....

In your particular situation, the visitor looking for "free slots" is different from a visitor looking for a "free no deposit" offer, so keep that in mind also...

You could possibly increase the conversion by stressing the benefits of playing for real in addition to being able to play for free within the content of the landing page or pages that score well for the "free" keywords.

Also it may be good to note that free players that later convert to depositing players may not convert immediately and could play free for quite a while before deositing...

To my mind players attracted by "free slots" keywords have stated right up front that they're not interested in depositing money - and as such you have to expect that the conversion to depositing players will be greatly reduced.

Our experience is that our pages with free games and test games (free play) generate a large number of downloads and basic registration - but the deposit rate is a low as just 1 or 2 per 100 players. While our more standard reviews will generate 1 or 2 depositors per 10 players.

So it's not impossible to get players who like the gaming experience so much that they do decide to deposit and "play for real" ... but the rates are lower.

Providing a specific quantifiable rate is difficult as Universal says - because we don't know the quality of your player traffic, or your sites ability to convert players - but as a rule of thumb I'd say that the conversion rate of "free play" is about 10% of standard traffic ...

    Thanks a lot, Rick!

These are really useful insights you shared here. I did search for related info before starting this thread, though the general picture was still kinda blurry. I hoped that with the numbers I gave I could get some rough estimate of what to expect, but I guess as you said many more factors need to be taken in account and I do not want to make more information public, at least not for now. I really appreciate your advice regarding the content update to stress the importance of playing for real and I certainly will soon add a separate section dedicated to no deposit bonuses and alike. Actually I added a small side block ranking a couple of no deposit bonuses about a week ago, though it is still early to appreciate the results.

Your notion of the conversion which doesn't come immediately, definitely gives me hope, though now I have another question which might look really silly. Is there any time limit within which a registered player needs to make his first deposit to remain in my account? The same goes for downloads, e.g. if a visitor has downloaded a casino, but registered say, only two months later, after finding the casino icon on his desktop, will he still belong to my affiliate account?

TheGooner, thank you very much for sharing the numbers. Now I am getting a perspective. I guess I will start working on increasing the numbers significantly and may be trying to target better converting keywords. Thanks again for your tips!
