Default Denmark sees slight uptick in sports betting, despite COVID-19

Figures released last week by Denmark’s Spillemyndigheden showed that market-wide gambling revenue in the three months ending 31 March was down 5% from the same period last year and down a similar percentage from the final quarter of 2019.

However, sports betting generated DKK635m, which is up 2.6% year-on-year despite the pandemic wiping out most major sports events in mid-March.

Other key figures include, mobile gaming being responsible for almost 52% of all wagering. Online casino revenue was near stagnant, falling just 1% to DKK555m. During the pandemic (between 9 March and 3 May 3), online casino revenue rose 2% year-on-year.

Going to be interesting to see what the 2nd quarter stats look like across the board for sports betting, April was a virtual wash-out for sports and May so far has only a seen a few more sports and leagues in action which suggest some pretty eye-watering numbers yet to come.
