I don't think the dmoz value is high as it used to be.. I prefer just to purchase links on these dmoz related sites. (no I won't drop a hat on the members who are doing it) but since it's pretty obvious you can't get a quality site listed on dmoz you should look for other routes on getting within that circle of links.

In return I have offered links on my linked dmoz sites to share the "value" within that community so it's basically fair game now.

I honestly didn't think DMOZ was even considered a legit directory as it was years ago. Some well documented cases of blackmail, asking for bribes, etc.

Not saying its not cool or useful to have a link there, but ya know. It has nothing to do with actual good resources.

It is a terrible thing. But i think everyone knows about these kinds of problems and are not interested in DMOZ anymore

    Hi

I have tried time and time again to get several sites listed in dmoz but have never been able to, no matter what the site was gambling health or otherwise. i have just gone ahead and listed in some other paid directories such as Joeant.com which seems to boost rankings a bit.

I see of one ODP Senior Editors over the gambling categories has already posted in this thread...

IMO, the ODP is a good link to have but not essential to today's successful SEO.
Over time Google has devalued links from all directories, some (like mine, the ODP and a few others) still carry some PR 'juice', but links from most directories are worthless.

My advice, submit it and forget it.
Better things to spend your time on, IMO.

DMOZ.... why would a directory that holds no value anymore in terms of quality, should hold backlinking value. I can stake everything that I've got that half of the sites in there are not even close to what's 'the best' in their category.

And for a directory that will keep you waiting for months or years, I don't see why you should put up with it. Yes we get it, it's a free directory and yes we get they have lots of submission, but so do many other directories and you don't see them complain.

I'd apply once and forget about it and wouldn't even worry about it. I would also not popularize it with such threads as well, as they barely deserve any attention. On a different note, a link from Wikipedia is worth. However their ... 25-6 editors do their job well and will delete all spam.

Matt Cutts gives an update on how he (=Google) thinks about DMOZ here.

Why what I wrote was gone?

If you think my post is too short, I can edit it. But I cannot see what I have typed for a couple of minutes. What is wrong?

None of my sites have ever been approved in the DMoz directory but nonetheless i continue to rank quite well for a number of search terms. Obviously having a link of them is good but its not the end of the world if you cant . there are several other high Pr sites out there

I have known only 1 person who has been able to get approval for his site (non-gambling) at Dmoz. He had also told me, some 4 to 5 years back, that he had paid $100 to get it approved. I believed his words. Any other thoughts?

It is one of the best(est) thing to get your site submitted and enlisted at Dmoz. but it is very tough to get the approval. Till date i know only one person who did submit his site at Dmoz, 4 to 5 years back, and that's too after paying $100 for the submission. I still don't know what's the truth. But I believed his words.

    Any other thoughts???
