Wink Do these link affect SEO

    Hi All ,

    What does the
    rel="nofollow"

on links.. Ive install the SEOQuake toolbar, and wanting to see if it can check my site..

Not sure if it makes any difference, but if its something i can improve my site, ive got to try.

Ive got a plugin that creates links to share on facebook, google reader etc.

Some of them are nofollow='yes' and some are nofollow="no".

    Which is better?

Wow there have been so many threads about follow Vs no nofollow I don't know where to start... to summarise I would say don't worry about it too much & no follow for aff links, search the forums here for nofollow to read a bit more in depth about it

in my opinion, if you dont want to send the link destination juice then "nofollow" otherwise leave it as follow

but remember that if you do "nofollow" a link you don't 'save' that link juice

All "no_follow" does is tell Google that you don't trust the website your linking too.

Use it for advertisements and outbound links you do not want associated with your search engine rankings.

    "No_Follow" is ALL about SEO.

Even no-follow doesn't pass link juice but they still have value for rankings. I have lots of no-follow links which are being shown in my GWT.
Find the Top Casinos, best reviews and a lot of bonuses. One of the best casinos is Casino770
They also have a poker room - poker770

you well get all the benefits from a link apart from the link juice. having a few nofollow links makes your profile look more natural as well

Like a few member already mentioned, having nofollow links heps to have a more natural link profile. For my newer sites I usually start with nofollow links, so far that has worked for me.

Nofollow links doesn't pass link juice, but they still have value for rankings. So follow links are always better

Everyone answered the question in regards to how Google treats it, but did not answer how other search engines treat this attribute. As simply put, nofollow tells the GoogleBot that you don't want your link's target ranking to be affected by that link.

Google Yahoo Bing don't count it for ranking but if you have 100% dofollow links nofollow will be better to gather around to make the portfolio look natural. On the other side if you have a 100% nofollow links dofollow gathering will be the way to go.

Google will not follow a nofollow link, but Yahoo will. Google will not index the linked to page, but Yahoo will. Google will not show the existence of the link but Yahoo will and so will Bing.

Imagine your side as a plastic bottle full of water. Each time you link an external site without the nofollow property, take a needle and punch a tiny whole in this bottle. Now imagine having tens of programs and hundreds of promotional links without that property. Hope you get the idea and the importance of the attribute. That's the best example I can think of.

sorry but you are wrong, if you no follow a link you don't save that link juice for your site, it dissolves into cyber space

I stand corrected, seems like Google has done that since 2009.

Google does not deliver counts back links that contains nofollow attributes. furthermore Google demands quality links rather than the quantity of links. So, it is better not to waste our time in putting our link on such sites which offer nofollow back links

rel=nofollow, is a old SEO practice, this code was written to hide link from ROBOTs, it was assuming if you put nofollow to links, Google crawler will not read that link and link juice will not drawn, but now a days it does not work, Google webmaster tool and other Backlinks checker tools also show nofollow link along with the dofollow.

No meter your link is not follow or no follow, but it effects your traffic ranking rather than your keyword ranking.

Nofollow link is a very important aspect of the overall SEO.

A high amount of backlinks consisting only of dofollow links smells like blackhat to Google. This can trigger manual review of your site and backlinks. And if your site has poor quality and speculative high amount of dofollow backlinks this can bring a penalty for your site. I'd keep it 50/50 dofollow and nofollow links or even a higher percentage of nofollow, because this is how it should be naturally. Natural backlinking should result more nofollow than dofollow links for a site.

Do not fall for traps from SEO services that offer only dofollow links. Dofollow links affect the PageRank of your site where nofollow don't, but however both are equally powerful.

I do not think no-follow links are very natural.

A natural link is one for visitors having nothing to do with seo....adding a no-follow to a link is motivated by seo.

But most of the natural links are nofollow.

I think that links generated from visitors are most often forum comments, blog comments and blog posts. The majority of those are most of the time nofollow.

Like everything other aspect of SEO "Don't put all of your eggs in one basket" - don't focus only on nofollow or dofollow. Type of backlinks should be diverse.
