Yes I do submissions once every month, submitting various url's of our website to various search engines.

My probability of success is good, my links do increase. However, guard against over submissions to the various se's, cause search engines will see it as spamming and drop your link from their sites.

I do a couple of submissions weekly or when they come up in forums for gambling directories. I did alot of directory submissions at the beginning to get the site noticed quickly.

What I've found that works better are article submitions. I've been getting more traffic from my articles than with directory submitions.

No. One good thing is to write 2 articles : one for the website and one for the article directories.
