Do you ever go to general (not iGaming focused) affiliate conferences?

Personally, I'm getting ready to head off to Barcelona for the biggest iGaming gathering of the year between EiG, the GPWA Conference, CAP Euro Barcelona, and the Canaffco Affiliate Boot Camp.

This week I thought it would be interesting to ask if folks also attend any general affiliate conventions for a broader perspective. In the United States there are Affiliate Summit conferences and in Europe there are Affiliate 4 U conferences.

The first conference of this nature that I attended was the Affiliate Summit last month in Boston. You can see my report on that conference in this thread: www.gpwa.org/forum/affiliate-summit-great-experience-176769.html

I found it interesting enough that next month I'm going to attend the Affiliate Summit Socia Media conference in New York city. And the next affiliate summit conference will be in Las Vegas in January - definitely a good excuse to visit Sin City if you're looking for one!

I pondered going to the one in MA, but was holding back for Barcelona, I would like to and plan on seeing how the other half lives . Diversification is a trait of many and mastered by few. I think studying how non gambling affiliates work would be beneficial.

I attended ASW last year in Vegas and I enjoyed it. It was interesting to attend the sessions and meet lots of other affiliate marketers. There is definitely a learning curve with lots of abbreviations to learn and terminology to grasp. I just stumbled upon this gig so I had very little knowledge of anything but gaming and revenue sharing. I intend to diversify and I know that I will, but it is difficult to follow through when you are talking about commissions of %3-%10 rather than the %35 that I have come accustomed to. Not to mention actually getting turned down by programs rather than talking them into paying me MORE! It is a different world than gaming that's for sure, but one that I am looking to as my future. It makes sense considering the unsettled environment of online gaming. I would say that it was worthwhile and who can resist the allure of vegas? I'll be looking forward to meeting you Michael.

There was a lot of talk of ethics in affiliate marketing and how to clean up the banner farm waste land out there. I suggested an organization similar to GPWA and offer a seal for approved affiliates.

PS One of the founders of Affiliate Summit, Missy, started out in gaming as an affiliate and she is still a GPWA member if I'm not mistaken.

I have attended a few and found them useful - Not amazing but certainly worth going espeically if you are interested in diversifying. If you are in London have a look at xxwww.a4uexpo.com - Its in a few weeks and the content is bloody good

We are actually teaming up with them in Amsterdam to produce an event that backs on to their European event so we have 4 days of affiliate focused goings on so 2 days general affiliate and 2 days gaming affiliate which I think will be massively useful for both sets of people.
