Do you own a tablet computer?

The fact that the GPWA is running a free contest to win an iPad made me wonder how many folks currently own a tablet computer.

Besides voting in the poll, be sure to share your thoughts about tablet computers. If you own one, what do you like best about it? How much do you use it and what for.

And if you don't own one, do you think you will take the plunge and buy one anytime soon? Why or why not.

And, if you have not already, be sure to enter our contest for a change to win an iPad yourself here: iPAD Drawing for GPWA and APCW Affiliates.

Last month my hubby got me a Tablet computer and at first I was not very excited as he always want to be on the cutting edge of that stuff where as I stick to my pc, but that has changed as I have to say that I LOVE it!

So far the best feature is the Video Chat that allow me to chat live with him while he is on the road, which is 3 weeks out of the month. I also love the ton of applications they have. My favorite app is the Talking Bible. It makes a huge difference listening to the words vs reading and trying to comprehend it while struggling to get the words and meaning right. lol

I like being able to take pictures and video on the spot and then transfer them from the card to my pc for storage. I've just started looking at other apps to use like napster and I will have to see if they have a skype app that works on it as well.

I'm no longer tied to my office chair to surf the net or lug my laptop around. I now find myself taking my tablet to my favorite chair for some me time where I can't actually work on anything business related, but still be connected.

Overall I think it's worth the expense if you can afford it. It's great if you want access to the internet wherever you are whenever you want/need it.

I don't own one, but would be a nice toy to try around.

I personally am not a fan of anything mobile, as I am very used to a wide noise making keyboard, with a mouse in my hand. Not to mention that I am a fan of big widescreens, using a 22'' Phillips.

Last but not least, I like to be able to upgrade parts, something I often do on my desktop systems on myself. Sadly usually mobile toys don't offer that ability.

Will not buy one anytime soon, as I would have no use of it, but I'd definitely be happy if I got one to play around with.

I am down with the whole concreted to the floor idea. I think if I ever owned a laptop never mind a tablet computer it would end up on the floor.

I have no plans to buy one, but wouldn't say no if somebody gave me one

I have a smart phone and a laptop, so don't see the need for something in between.

I got an Ipad for xmas, and I used it while travelling for a couple of weeks and then switched to my netbook. I still don't like that the Ipad isn't compatible with some of the more common programs and applications and I felt limited.

I like the concept a lot though and will likely get a non-apple one sometime in the not too distant future. I am waiting for a few generation to appear so the bugs get ironed out and functionality improves more.

But I do like the fact that it is big enough to actually work with but small enough to slip into my purse. And the touch screen rocks, and touch screen typing isn't half bad either.

A tablet doesn't really interest me. A fun gadget but I'm not sure I'd work on it much if travelling.

I'll stick with my Netbook for now.

I've got an ASUS netbook running Linux, which is the ideal thing to take on vacation but an ipad is of little use to me.

No I don't own or want a tablet
Having set-up an office with multi-screen views, multiple systems, networked routing and printing ... that's what I want to use to work.

I don't see much point in consumer electronics that doesn't have a decent keyboard to allow working.
A notebook is not good enough for me - and the idea of an ipad / tablet for working is a nightmare.

    ------------

And as a user/consumer I'm much more interactive with my websites that I use as a consumer than basic point and click surfing.
There is a fair amount of typing and interaction that is clunky on a tablet.

ipad/tablets are very pretty - but pointless - unless you have a specific application that really hits a niche for you
Gamtrak's video applications to allow her to keep in touch with husband while travelling sound like a great match ...
    Well done!!

Mind you - I don't need a Playstation, a Wii, a smartphone or any of the other consumer gadgets too!
So I'm just not wired to appreciate a small screen, limited interaction, expensive consumer experience I guess

I have an Ipad and I love it! I use it now more than my net-book, unless I need to use Microsoft applications

Gooner, these are only for travelling IMO, or maybe for taking a break outside and relaxing while still staying in touch. For at-home work, I am purely desk top, I don't even like laptops.

Think I would like one but never seen one up close, never tested one or know anyone that has one, so I really cannot comment on its uses etc

But from what I have seen on TV they do look cool and I can imagine myself using one, for what though, no idea.

So yeah, think I want a tablet, but damned if I know what for.

I asked my friend to lend me a tablet computer for a month and after that month I decided I don't need it. I have a pocket PC with a big screen. It's much more portable and has the same functions, so what's the use to pay more and have this heavy and inconvenient device? It's good for those who need to take notes all the time, make schedules, etc. Not for me.

When I was in the market for a new .mp3 player last August I started looking at other options. I liked the idea of the iPod Touch, but I don't fancy iTunes so much, so I wanted a player that had some of the functionality of a touch (wifi, movies, etc). I can't justify spending $30 a month for internet access on my cell phone...ever. I ended up picking up an Archos 5" internet tablet. It was good, but just a month or two before the market exploded with fancy tablets. Had I waited, I could've got something a little more spiffy, but it gets the job done.

I won't complain if I win that GPWA iPad, though

Yes, I have an iPad, although I don't use it as much as you'd think!

I guess it's nice to get away from your desk/work and play around with the iPad on the couch chatting to friends and surf about, get away from work for a bit. I'm a big fan of anything that is cable free. Having cables everywhere stress the bejesus out of me. So yeah, could be good to have an iPad. But i'd wait though for some other brands - Not a fan of Apple.

I won an Ipad from Gr88 Poker in Jan and I love it. Its not ideal to do work on, but for reading (Kindle) and basic email checking, netflix, etc its nice.

From my experience iPad is just an over-sized iPod Touch.

I am using it for a few months and have found several “pluses” and “minuses”
    +
It is very comfortable to read books from it, using the vertical screen orientation.
Tablet PC is extremely convenient for document editing; it allows making marks on the fields or in the text.
    -
Tablet PC screen mounting is less tight, as the screen is fixed on one rotating loop – unlike the usual laptop.
Special screen covering that is sensitive to the pressure lowers the definition and brightness at the corners.
The preciseness of finger pressing is not very high.
