Question Do you own a tablet computer?

As the price of tablets have dropped, they are becoming increasingly common as web browsing devices by the general public. Increasingly, the audience for affiliates and operators is using tablets and smart phones. I've been thinking I should get a tablet for a while, if for no other reason than to have a sense of what it is like to be a consumer using one. Taking the leap of actually owning one proved to be a very simple decision to me. I won a Galaxy Note 4 at the SiGMA conference just over a week ago in Malta (thank you anna partners).

To me, it appears the tablet marketplace is growing, but still pretty small. For the GPWA website, hardly anyone uses tablets (2.2% in the past month). But our audience is webmasters, and webmasters are definitely not using tablets as the power platform for their work. The consumer-oriented sites I'm involved with all have over 10% of their traffic on tablets. Smaller than mobile, but growing.

Besides answering the poll question about whether you own a tablet computer, share your views of tablet devices, and the role you think they currently play in the marketplace and how you think that will evolve over time.

Yes, we have two Samsung tablets in the house for browsing away from the computer. It is a consumer device, but it's ease of use, good sized screen, and compatibility with all websites mean it works well for that. Mainly used to check mail, browse news, or look up just WHO IS THAT ACTOR? when watching a Tv show !!

My desktop / laptop combination is used for work, and I don't ever see that moving to tablet / mobile - due to the lack of solid input device and screen space. Content providers need real computers.

I'd estmate that 80% of my internet browsing is also done on desktop / laptop. However, when it comes to mobile browsing then I'd estimate 99% tablet - 1% phone. The majority of my phone connection to the net these days is via specific apps.

    So that's desktop 78%, laptop 2% *, tablet 19.9%, phone 0.1%
(* laptop is so low because it's only really used when we are travelling).

Personally, I am waiting for the prices of the Surface 3 to come down more before I get one.

Overall, I would MUCH rather just pick up my laptop, but I can see the value in a tablet for quick usage.

Some times when considering whether to pick up a tablet, instead of your phone and not bothering with the laptop is harder to justify when we as a general rule work almost exclusively on the internet.

For me a tablet will never do as much as my laptop, and barely more than one of my phones.

I have had an Ipad for over a year now and am very happy with it. I think I am going to get a new macbook next? Not 100% sure.

We have two tablets at home a 7" and a 10" both Nexus tablets.

Used to use them a lot more but lately I find I'm just using my phone a lot more since it's always on me.

We have 3 in the house. My wife and children use them more than me. Mostly for facebook, youtube and playing games.

I think I have far too much technology in my house.

I have a tablet that I've had a couple of years now. I mostly use it when I'm traveling. It's good for movies and stuff like that, as well as internet when I'm in a wifi area. It's also good for taking to the affiliate conferences when I can feel bothered to carry it so that I can show affiliates our site etc. Most affiliates have them with these days so I don't need to take it with me often.

I mostly use my phone to surf the net when I'm at home on the couch because I can lay there and use it rather than have to sit up.

I use my laptop too at home but mostly when I'm editing my website or I need to do some kind of online shopping like groceries or something and I need to make sure everything goes through. I don't trust my phone sometimes.

I also have my ipod which I use to surf if my phone is going dead and I'm laying on the couch.

And I guess sometimes it is a matter of grabbing whatever is closest. I'm a bit of a tech junkie so my house is not just limited to these things but these are the things I use for work/surfing.

I have a Galaxy Tab 3 Mini that I got from a promo at my bank but I must say I rarely use it. It's pretty small for a tablet but also its specs are not the best, I usually just use my phone to surf the web etc if I'm in my bed as it works faster than the tablet.

Honestly, I thought I'd have more uses for it, but it's currently just gathering dust I have one e-book on it that I want to read, but god knows when I will find time for that.

    I see things like this:
    - tablets - devices for people that consume media
    - PCs - devices for people that create media
I'm a media creator not a media consumer only, so I don't need a tablet.

I am going to buy 10' tablet in few months.
I think tablets with smaller screen size is no-no.
...and I really dislike smartphones as these getting too much complex and easy-going for hackers.

I do have a tablet computer and I love it. I spend more time working on the tablet than on my computer. Combined with a wireless keyboard you have everything you need.

I bought my first tablet almost 2 years ago, a Samsung Galaxy Tab 2. A few weeks ago I bought my second tablet, a Apple iPad Air 2.
The reason I bought a iPad this time is because I never had an iOS device. All my phones are Android as well. But I wanted an iPad to be able to test and review iOS apps from the gambling websites. The apps are sometimes different on the Android and iOS platform. Some apps are only available on one of them.

What I use my tablet for? Reviewing apps and mobile websites from gambling websites or my own websites. Furthermore I use it when I travel. Viewing movies in the train or plane. It is also good to surf the web. But I don't like them for forums like GPWA. I don't like the typing on a touchscreen, I prefer a keyboard. There are separate keyboards for tablets and I own one but I never use it. If I need a keyboard I will use my laptop, I don't see any advantage why I would use a tablet in this case.

A tablet can also be handy for studying. I still prefer a real book above a digital. But I'm learning a new php framework for example. They constantly update their framework. They have their own study book for the framework and they keep updating it. In this case it is good to use the digital pdf and put that on my tablet next to the desktop. I read on the tablet and try on the desktop.

I have a nextbook and I love the large screen but I was disappointed at the picture quality. I also have a kindle which seems more sturdy and user friendly and has a nice library you can build.

I don't use them much at home and they're only pulled out when the kids want to play games or if I'm stuck in a waiting room somewhere. I'd much rather use a tablet than my cell phone.

Very interesting to see the wide range of adoption (or abandonment) and different uses that people have for technology.
    Good sharing guys and gals!

I have never felt the need to have a tablet. My husband keeps going on that I need one, so I think I know what I will be getting for Christmas

I am not a gadget type of person, so I would only get a new electronic gadget if I really really need it

Na, I don't personally have the need for one. Macbook Air is small enough and a lot more powerful.

This is the most useless gadget I've ever seen. I can't see why it is better than anything with keyboard.
