Question Do you plan to spend more or less time on affiliate marketing in 2018?

It's a new year. Traditionally the time to reflect on accomplishments for the past year and set goals for the new year.

In looking at your involvement in the affiliate industry, how do your plans for the coming year differ from your plans for the past year. Do your plans for the new year mean you will devote more or less time overall to the business this year than you did last year? And do you plan to spend your time differently than last year?

We ran a similar poll each of the last two years:

Do you plan to spend more or less time on affiliate marketing in 2017?
Do you plan to spend more or less time on affiliate marketing in 2016?

In last year's poll nearly 50% of those responding said they expected to spend a lot more time than they did the year before. I'm curious how that will compare with the results of this year's poll.

    A bit less:
    - I work too hard
    - I don't need the money
    - I don't like all the compliance and how affiliate companies are starting to treat us lot like we're a nuisance.

Time to get into other things for me. 5 years of talking about gambling offers and I'm a bit sick of it.

I'd like to work a bit less.
I'd like to earn about 2.5x as much.
    My goals are probably incompatible.

    Thumbs up

I certainly plan on spending more time this year and getting more important work done!

I have more goals that I'm aiming to achieve this year and I'm really hoping that everything will go according to plan this time around for sure.

I'll keep it about the same this year, got to be a balance between life/family/friends and working relentlessly. Pick the laptop up far too often at silly times of the morning/evening as it is!

I don't have any more time, I'm already full steam with 0 free days and huge hours however the end plan is getting close so it will all be worth it.

Ditto. (except it's nearly 20 years)
Clicks to signup ratio has dwindled close to zero - it's a different world - app centric I think.
Thank goodness for rev-share and the previous 10 years worth of existing players.
I will cut time spent in gaming in half (at least)

Have started a new venture in different field that looks far more lucrative in 2018 than being a gaming aff.
That will get 50-60% of my time as I build the business.

I plan on spending no more than 1-2 hours per day on my affiliate sites. I've been working in this industry since 2000 and don't need to work quite as hard anymore. Besides that, the increasing challenge to convert traffic, to rank in the search engines and the growing number of rogue programs doesn't make working in this industry quite as worthwhile as it was many years ago. I'll continue promoting online casinos, but at a more relaxed pace as I explore other online business ventures.

I also just want to add to this post that there are still so many things that I want to cross off my never ending bucket list! I'm sure that I will still see the day when the iGaming industry will grow and flourish so much more and starting from this year and beyond

    Thank you everyone!

I went to a business sales seminar before xmas about preparing your business for a sale etc.

One of the speakers was saying how he ran a bag company that sold re-useable cloth and woven carrier bags to supermarkets and how he'd got in at the start of that whole thing. He did it for 10 years before selling for £1.5m and he was saying how by the end, he was just sick of day in day out talking about carrier bags and all the different variations, e.g. handle types, sizes etc.

It really struck a chord with me and how sometimes when I'm sat in front of the PC I find it really gruelling to find the energy to write about gambling companies e.g. the recent bet365 stuff meant I had to change and update a lot of content that I was quite happy with, it was quite a pain to find new ways to say the same things. Obviously content writers solve some of that, but there's still a certain amount I can't avoid doing myself. It's really hard to stick with it if you're passion has gone for it, once the novelty of making the money has worn off.

I think most people of a certain intelligence will have this 'crisis' at some point, the boredom, the lack of real meaningfulness in work etc. I also think it's perfectly acceptable to say, "I did that for 5/10/20 years, but now I want a complete change".

Yes, that's one of the issues I'm facing. While it's nice to make a living out of it, I think at some point in time you start thinking about the deeper sense of your work. And really, let's be honest, there is much more meaningful work that could be done.

I for myself will dig deep into a new business and will switch to "maintenance" mode on most gambling projects/campaigns, so that I can spend at least 50% of my time in the new venture.

Yes, you're absolutely right. This is the main issue and focus at hand here and the crux of important work.

haha, for sure. Is there any glory in setting up a website to rank in google, to essentially attract gamblers to sign up through your link, and you make money off of what they lose?

That's the bottom line of this business. Easy money, easy to setup once you get going but as far as being any way shape or form meaningful is far from reality.

Using the money to enjoy your life to the full helps. Travel. No boss. No financial stress etc.
