Do you purchase paid links to your site?

Inbound links to a website are an important factor used by search engines to determine how high the page and the site being linked to should appear in search results. And many webmasters pay other sites for inbound links because of that fact.

What about you? Do you currently have any paid links to your sites? If you have paid for inbound links, how many current links do you have on that basis?

Be sure to post in this thread more details about your experience. How expensive are such links, and how much of a price premium is there for different quality inbound links. Do you have evidence how much they have helped you? Or have they hurt you because you were penalized for the inbound links you acquired?

Just the one paid link at this time and what a disaster that was.

All my own fault though, .

i think it cost $100 for six months on a fellow members site but it took me two months to get the link up, absolute incompetence on my part.

The member i bought the link off was great to do business with and have zero complaints there

Overall i am happy now its finally up and will see how it goes.

I have been experimenting with blogroll links. Rand from SEOMoz had a video on qualities of links. The worse types of links (better than nothing) were forum positing, blog posts, and free directories. The better links were blogroll links. The higher end quality links.

Never pay for links and the last time I exchanged links was about 2 years ago. I believe many factors play a role whether or not paid links or cross-linking play any role in Serp placement.

Inbound links IMO should be natural process. Works for me but admit this method is not for everyone. When you begin manipulating, taking short cuts, I found you run the risk of severe serp depression.

However if I went to the dark side (BH) attaining inbound links would be a easy as 24 hours.

    Just a thought

I've responded no. None of Casino City, the GPWA, or the APCW have paid for inbound links. I guess I should clarify that I don't know whether the GPWA ever did before I became the executive director about three years ago, or whether the APCW ever did before we acquired it last fall. All I can say is that I've never used paid links for any of these sites.

Many years ago I did pay the fee Yahoo required for considering new sites for one site we launched, but I don't really consider that review fee to have been a paid link fee.

I don't have any personal philosophical objection to paid link placements for reasonable content relevant links. It has just never been a focus of mine for us to obtain links in that fashion.

Never paid for a link - that's just throwing money away.

I have several reciprocal links up - usually with high traffic sites that i like and that work in the same space.

I don't want PR - I don't care about "scuplting" as it seems to make no difference to SERPS.

All I want is eyeballs actually interested in the topic(s) I'm writing about.

I've never bought or sold links. I don't exchange them either as a rule but have done so in very rare cases with a select few trusted friends.

I agree with Gooner, I don't care about PR. My serps position is most important to me and I achieve good results without trading or buying links.

Nope, not one paid link and I really do not work hard at LE's. It is more a natural process for me adding and getting links. If I am talking with someone and it comes up, then I do it. It is not an active campaign for me.

It's interesting because I know affiliates that are successful on both sides of this equation. I know affiliates that buy hundreds of links and then I know many that don't buy any links. I have seen cases where both have been successful. I guess it just depends on how you decide to run your sites.

    ummm well........

when I first started my sites I paid for a few links however after investigation I have realised and feel that paid links (from link selling programs etc) are not the same compaired to the links you exchange!

Google has clocked on to the idea of links being brought from 'link shops' and I know of other people who have been officially google slapped for the purchase of paid links (too many links built within a certain period of time).....

I would say social bookmarking is one of the most powerful form on linking as you get good solid links as well as great amounts of traffic

    Regards

Ya i agree with you social bookmarking plays important role in ranking and traffic, but if you get links from good websites like( unique ip adress, theme based websites, content based websites) then you will get more traffic and ranking to your website.

Google, and natural search, is my friend.

    They don't like paid links.

    And they're smarter than me.

I play by Big G's rules.
