Many affiliates serve the banners on their websites themselves. And many affiliates use services provided by the affiliate programs they work with to serve banner advertisements for their brands. There are pluses and minuses to each approach.
When you serve banners yourself you have direct control over all of the banners served and over any cookies or other tracking performed on the visitors to your website.
If the banners on your site are served by affiliate programs, then the affiliate program takes care of keeping banners up-to-date, and so the banners served are likely to be more current and reflect current offers. But you also open up your site to tracking of your visitors by the company serving the banners when you are not doing it yourself.
With the EU directives regarding cookies that were announced last May coming into effect this May on the one-year anniversary of the initial announcment, I thought it made sense to ask about GPWA member's use of banners. To be compliant with the EU regulations you need to make sure that any third-party services that serve ads on your site are compliant in addition to making sure you are compliant yourself.
So, for this week's poll share with us whether or not you use banners and how they are served.
Michael
