What a disturbing story. It's kind of unclear what the guys wanted - unless it was the horribly obvious... She kept her cool though.

What a shame she just lost her husband then had to go through this. She did what had to be done... don't mess with mom.

I am glad that the US has such laws that you can actually protect yourself from such things. Enough countries in the world forbid you to use deadly force, unless the intruder a. shows a possession of a firearm and b. is hostile .... I know it's stupid . Breaks my heart to try to imagine in what shock she must be in... losing a husband, having to raise a baby alone and killing a man.

In the US as far as I know, the person has to feel that there life is in imminent danger.....

She likely would have been charged with manslaughter if she had shot him BEFORE he stepped inside.

I remember a story here in Costa Rica, that a guy broke into somebodies house and there was a German Shepperd inside the house waiting for him.

The Dog badly injured the man and the guy went ahead and sued the family of the house and they had to put the dog to sleep.

    Crazy stuff eeehh?

You can really go around the laws in this country pretty easily.

Whatever it takes to protect your family, once the mother’s instinct kicks in nothing else matters.

I wish we had those laws in Australia. If someone breaks into your house here, you can't harm them or they will sue you lol How ridiculous is that!

I think this woman is very brave and a fantastic mother. Pretty nasty to break into someone's house, especially on New Year's Eve.

My husband told me about this story the other night and he sounded so proud of her for protecting her and her baby like that. The guy had a knife so obviously he was there with bad intentions so she had every right to shoot him. In this case it was kill or be killed I guess.
