Facebook now allow Usernames

This is great to find people that you only know online by their forum/username.

Usernames allow public entities to easily promote your presence on Facebook with a short URL (http://www.facebook.com/companyname). This username can be used in your marketing communications, company website and business cards.

Starting at 12:01 a.m. (EDT) on Saturday, June 13, 2009, you will be able to select a username at http://www.facebook.com/username. For more information, visit the Username help topic.

You can claim your user name for your facebook profile and any fan pages (if you meet 2 requirements) by going here.

I'm not surprised. Folks started grabbing names in a frenzy like free money falling from the sky. LOL I probably should have posted about this a few days ago and give a heads up on it.

I'm happy to say that I got mine, but don't think there was a mad rush for it from anyone but me. Looks like there are going to be lots of similar names with numbers.

Facebook Usernames are LIVE: 200,000 Usernames in 3 Minutes

Facebook() announced them on Tuesday, and the wait has been going on since. I am, of course, talking about Facebook Usernames, the new Facebook feature that will allow you to create your own custom URL. Thousands, if not millions of users have been anxiously waiting at their computers on a Friday night for the right to grab their own piece of Facebook real estate.

Well the wait is over! The Facebook team has just flipped the switch and you can now register your username. Facebook has told us that 200,000 usernames have been registered in 3 minutes. So after you’ve visited Facebook and registered a username, we want to hear from you! Post your new Facebook URL in the comments and let us know if you got the name you wanted!

As we stated in our last post, we are live at Facebook’s offices in Palo Alto to bring you all the details, good and bad, as they develop. We’ll update you with any bugs, issues, or stories of success.

Not much else for ya to do if you don't use it for marketing then it's not really a big deal, but I have a feeling that it will be very beneficial down the road as social networking become more mainstream.

I like having the option of telling folks to search for gamtrak instead of my real name. I'm thankful that I made up a one word name like [GamTrak] for my brand in 2001 that works very well for this type situation.

I was going to get my avatar's name, but I could not resist trying to grab a keyword phrase in my niche. I do not know if I did the right thing, but it "felt" like a good thing at the time.

The crappy thing about these is that you can't change them once you have them set, so if you choose something like my mate did (something like 2dollar.slut - a male with a broad sense of humour) then you are stuck with it forever.

I'm on the process of creating an account on facebook and find time to be familiar on the environment. Good thing they consider adding a username name on the URL for an easy research. Does it has a category that pertains to gambling?

Well, I think that a link from facebook.com/keyword will do nicely for a site that is trying to rank for "keyword" term. Most of facebook is private so a link will not be helpful. The only exception would be a fan page, which will have a user name soon.
