    Florida exploring online gambling?

A state representative in Florida sees online poker/gambling as another way for his state to generate much needed revenue. Late last week, Joseph Abruzzo introduced a bill titled the "Internet Poker Consumer Protection and Revenue Generation Act of 2010."

California, New Jersey and Iowa are other states where there's been talk about exploring online gambling.

    From RecentPoker.com:

Abruzzo's legislative proposal suggests a fully regulated system of online gambling in the state, relying on a provision in the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act of 2006 that acknowledges and retains the right of individual states to legalise online gambling within their boundaries.

The new bill proposes strict regulatory measures with which operators will have to comply. These include rigorous licensing conditions and an application fee of $500 000 payable to the Pari-Mutuel Wagering Trust Fund of the Department of Business and Professional Regulations in Florida.

With the USA being one of the Countries worst hit by the economic down turn, it would be almost insane not to look at online gambling as a tax revenue stream.

I don't doubt that this recession could well be an ironic life line to the industry.

Besides word has been around for more than a few years the major Vegas casinos have online casinos ready to go.
Approval and a flick of the switch and they're in business.

    Cheers

Intersting. I'm originally from Florida (Go Gators!) and they recently approved table games in the state. I am not sure exactly when they started allowing them, but it was a big boost to the industry there. I imagine that they realized the potential and are considering going further.. OR the lobbyist in Florida were successful and want their controlling interests to go online as well.

Yes, they approved the tables last year and in addition the slots changed a lot at the Casinos affected as well.

I have not been down to the south FL locations but have visited the Hard Rock in Tampa since.

I look forward to progress on this.....
