Gambling website or mainstream turned gambling?

    Hey all,
In the past few weeks I've been thinking about it, and I'm wondering which have better potential: doing gambling websites, or doing mainstream websites and then turning them into gambling websites. I assume that gambling websites have more targetted traffic, but it's easier to get traffic on mainstream sites.

    So, here is the poll.

Traffic itself isn't worth a penny, if it does not convert. I have made thousands and thousands of euros with just 20 daily, highly targeted visitors, but left empty handed with hundreds of "mainstream" visitors.

So do I, my websites convert well. But I'm considering purchasing a long established sports site and adding sportsbetting content. I expect much lower clickthrough / conversion, but "empty handed"?

We have a site in our group called xxxxhttp://www.pponline.co.uk/ which ranks extremely well for sports training and fitness related terms and has the perfect demographic for gambling but when we tried promoting both poker and sports betting and neither were that successful -

I think what you need to remember is why someone is coming to your site and what information they are looking for as opposed to trying to get them to click through to sites that aren't relevent.

Saying that there are definitely ways to do this for example you could do a fan site of say Lewis Hamilton which could include affiliate deals with everything from F1 holiday companies through to Amazon for F1 goodies - BUT at the same tiem you could have a live odds feed on Hamilton at the next F1, or include text links in relevent articles (but not too many) - Clicks and conversions wouldn't be huge but because it would be a lot more relevent I am sure they would be better than simply trying to manipulate a ton of irrelevent traffic to bet

Exactly, it's actually against the rules in web development to direct traffic from the sites that actually not what they were searching for. Proxy sites for example is being banned by most ISP's.
