Golden Casino still center of Maryland investigation

Gambling 911 linked to a piece from the Baltimore City Paper that says Golden Casino is smack dab in the middle of the US Attorney's investigation on payment processors.

Van Smith of the City Paper talked to Gambling 911 this week.

(Smith) advised Gambling911.com this week, that the investigation is likely to yield more news at a rapid fire pace.

"It appears that the investigation is in an active phase," Smith said. "I'll
likely be coming out with more pieces as new SSWs come available, or
whatever else develops at the courthouse."

On Wednesday, Smith revealed the latest move to show up in court records in Baltimore is the seizure of $365,366.69 from two bank accounts in the name of Atrium Financial Group (AFG). According to the affidavit in the case, Delaware-based AFG disburses money to on-line gamblers, including those who try their luck using GoldenCasino.com.

Why would an online casino store funds in US bank accounts when the legal situation in this country is quite clear?

Local accounts are typically maintained for the purposes of disbursing winnings to players, which can otherwise be more complicated from international accounts. The amount that was seized, while a very significant sum for an individual is a relatively small sum for a large online gaming operation.

It is not really the money that I am surprised about but the company that owns the bank account. If the funds were provingly used to pay online casino customers in the U.S., someone will most likely have to answer unpleasant questions.
