    Default Google Disavow

    Hi,

I know there has been some discussion on this before. I just wanted to add what I just did.
I have a casino site that ranks OK and makes a little money. Nothing big but it was slowly climbing each month.
Recently it tanked. I thought it might be because of the Google updates.
I checked the backlinks and I had over 600 low quality sites linking to it from African domains.
I don't do any business in Africa and I have no customers from there.
The anchor text was some of the keyword phrases that had been making me money.
They were all multiple redirects and some of them went to virus laden sites.
They all linked to my site within a one week time period.

I just sent a disavow list to Google with over 600 links.

Just one of those things to keep up on.

I'd be fascinated to see whether you see any difference before / after the disavow?
    I've NEVER bothered using it.

I have never used it before either but it looks like my site was targeted just at the time it was starting to get good SERP results. I will check the links to see how long it takes Google to remove them. After that I don't know how long it will take for any changes if they do happen but I don't expect anything for a month or two.

Second gooner. Would be glad if you update in a month or two, although anyway would be hard to separate from other things going on.

You should check the dates of the drop - if it happened exactly on one of Google update days.

I used it but only in a minor way disabling few links here and there from various porn sites, but saw no difference.

You have so many amazing links [due to your top-notch content and consistency over all these years] that I daresay that none of this dodgy-link-slinging would have a negative effect on your domain IMO.

Progress? None so far. None of the links have been removed. In fact, several more have been added. I guess Google is in no hurry.

It takes a long time for Google to crawl all those ****** sites again, to take your disavow into account, etc.

I've disavowed over 1,000 ****** websites in the last couple weeks. We've been targeted by something similar. And yes, I think it worked negatively against us.

Yes, it is taking some time. It has been two weeks and not one link has been removed.
I noticed that all of the links are .gq, .tk, .ml, .cf

May I ask how you monitor/discover these crappy links? That's a LOT to be disavowing - but we've been targeted in the past too so I'm keen to learn more about it.

I suppose any of the link monitoring services/SEO tools would suffice. There is also Google Search Console, however limited it now is with only showing 1,000 websites (the new GSC sucks).

You can download the links from the new GSC.

Personally, it's really never made any difference to my sites whether I disavow Google links or not as I've never seen any real changes from doing this.

econfox, Google isn't making it any easier for us. It's very annoying I know.

I don't think disavow makes much difference. Once Google has penalized you for low quality links, disavowing won't remove the penalty. It might help a tiny bit in the very long-term though.

If the root source of the problem are the links you later disavow, then I do think it is helpful, but, if it is just a portion of overall penalties, then all things that caused the penalty would need fixed.

This is from the Google disavow help page

Google works very hard to make sure that actions on third-party sites do not negatively affect a website. In some circumstances, incoming links can affect Google’s opinion of a page or site. For example, you or a search engine optimizer (SEO) you’ve hired may have built bad links to your site via paid links or other link schemes that violate our quality guidelines. First and foremost, we recommend that you remove as many spammy or low-quality links from the web as possible.

If a site has been a round a while and has a lot of good backlinks then I don't think it will matter. However, a new site that does not have a lot of backlinks and is at the bottom of page may be a different story. If you are at the top of page two for some profitable keywords and want to move down your competition. It just might work and if it does Googles slow reaction time will keep it down for months.

I noticed that a lot of the Google information on disavow revolves around people paying for bad backlinks. It seems to Google that is what must have happened.
