Google not appy with "comment spam"

It seems that Google are intending to devalue (or even penalize) comment spammers

But how can they tell a real comment from a spam comment?
    This is worrying me.......

No they can't tell the difference unless they make some generic value judgement about the ralated content and topic.

And even then I think that the best Google can do is devalue (to zero?) the value of comments - because to actually penalize would open a door for blackhatters to google bomb a competing site.

And - to be frank - I can't disagree that most links in comments are spammy or of little related value. There is a whole mini-industry in india and china around generating these isn't there?

Comments = zero value at Google SERPs seems a good option.

I have always felt Google's biggest problem is that they seem to look everywhere EXCEPT on a website to determine how well a website should rank.

Regarding comment spam... I manage a wordpress blog and I get post after post of nearly identical comments. It is probably pretty easy for google to compare comments and find out which are legit and which are spammy.

Surely its the quality of the comment thats important, not the link
I judge the success of my football posts by the amount of comments i get (record about 60) and any spam gets deleted anyway.

Maybe they will look at the amount of added links to posts to guess if its spam or not?

I also use WP for my blogs. If it wasn't for Akismet I'd be spending my time chasing spammers and not writing content.

Unless google is going to tap into a db like Akismet or maybe create its own, I don't see how it can sort the wheat from the hay, without incurring a lot of false/positives.

    Cheers

I was just concern about trackback everytime you post something on your blog preferably on wordpress. Are trackback considered a valuable type of comments or it'll be one of those "spam" sort that eventually seen by Google, maybe soon or this coming year, probably when Google begin to change its whole algorithm.

I use WP too and Akismet rocks. Maybe they will use the fact that you control your own spam as part of the equation. I leave lots of comments on other Arsenal blogs, and they do the same for me, but they are all RELEVANT.
This is what is worrying me, How can they tell the difference?
