GPWA Times Magazine - Issue 5

I'm very pleased to report the fifth edition of the GPWA Times Magazine is now published and is being distributed at the Poker Conference and at CAP Spring Break in Cyprus this week.

GPWA Times Magazine - Fifth Issue Cover

Once again, based on popular demand, this issue continues our interview series with both GPWA portal webmasters and affiliate program managers. Our affiliate interviews feature casinolatte, Fortune Palace, pokertramp, SharBear613 and Tyson. And our affiliate manager interviews include Aaron O'Sullivan of 32Red Affiliates, Dean Bosci of PDC Affiliates, Katerina Milfaitova of AffiliateClub.com, Lee Knott of PartnerLogic, Nadine Cassar of ShareTheChilli.com.

In our cover story Alister Nield of Webscreen Systems enlightens us about some of the ways cyber criminals prey upon online gaming sites, including the use of botnets to launch DDoS attacks. And Attorney's Joe Kelly and Gary Ehrlich give their perspective on America's "Cold War" against online gambling.

On a cheerier note, our own Rebecca Liggero gives us an up close and personal introduction to online poker's top 10 characters, and Gary Trask weights the pros and cons of using freerolls as a marketing tool. Plus, we announce the winning caption for issue 4's captionless cartoon contest and include a new one in this issue as well as another GPWA crossword puzzle.

You can see a few pages of the fifth issue of the GPWA Times Magazine online in pdf format. Just follow this link: GPWA Times Magazine Sample Pages.

Of course, if you are not able to pick up a copy in person at the poker conference or CAP Spring Break in Cyprus this week, we would be happy to mail you a copy. If you are already registered on the GPWA site, then to subscribe to the GPWA Times Magazine just click on the "User Control Panel" option under the "Forums" menu bar navigation item. Then from within the control panel, select "Edit Profile." If you fill in your mailing address information in your profile, we will mail a copy of the magazine to you and we'll also include some prior issues if we have not already sent you them. If you are not already registered on the GPWA website, then just click "Register" on the navigation bar, and follow the "Register Now" link on that page, being sure to provide your mailing address when you register.

When will the issue be sent by mail?

I just recently added my adress and wants to make sure I am receiving a copy.

Why is there not an online version in PDF?

Way to go Sharon! Can't wait to read your interview. Too bad it takes so long to get the magazine up here in Canada...

    Sharon,

We've had a comedy of errors that has delayed the shipping of the new issue. Combinations of in-house printing equipment needing to have maintenance performed, the local paper trimmer at the Kinkos damaging covers we sent to them, and then needing to wait for it to be repaired, and then some of our staff here being out of the office for a few days.

But we are back on track now, and we expect to catch up and have magazines out to all the current subscribers this week.

If you are not a current subscriber, it is easy and free to sign up to have us mail you copies. Instructions for signing up are contained at the end of the first message in this post. Of course, as it ends up, we are changing the navigation all around on the site today, so following are revised instructions based on the navigation that will be in place soon.

If you are already registered on the GPWA site, then to subscribe to the GPWA Times Magazine first log in if you are not already. Then just click on the "Edit My Details" option under the "My Account" menu bar navigation item. If you fill in your mailing address information in your details, we will mail a copy of the magazine to you and we'll also include some prior issues if we have not already sent you them. If you are not already registered on the GPWA website, then just click on the "Create an Account option under the "My Account" menu bar navigation item, and follow the "Register Now" link on that page, being sure to provide your mailing address when you register.

Thanks for the update Michael. That certainly answers why I haven't gotten the copy yet. Sorry to hear about all the issues that have arose, but glad to hear they are back to normal.

    Issue 5 Magazine Mailing

    Hi Casinolatte,

We were finally able to ship out all of the magazines to current subscribers. Yay! I do apologize for the delay - we had a conflence of weird problems getting the latest issue out the door. Isn't Mercury retrograde now? haha!

Anyway, your shipment went out last Friday, so you should be receiving it any day now.

    Thanks,

    Andrea

    Thanks Michael,

Got the magazine and as usual it is great. Interesting thing is that I used to be a director of WebScreen Systems so if anybody wants any security advice regarding anything feel free to PM me. I now run RandomStorm which more focuses on vulnerability management and we should speak as I could create a great article for you as well as look at offering some sort of a great deal for GPWA members.

    Thanks again,

    Andrew..

Just received the No. 5. Will go through it during the weekend. Plenty to read: apart from the affiliate interview series and the affiliate manager interviews, the two articles on the business security problems and America's 'Cold War' against online gambling interest me most. Thanks GPWA administration for this nice effort again.

My copy showed up yesterday. I am about half way through it and am enjoying it as usual! Thanks to all involved for their hard work in putting it together. The affiliate and affiliate manager interviews continue to be interesting reads.

We actually deliberately tried to include interviews with members skewed toward those involved in poker in issue 5. The reason for the particular emphasis in that area was because we were distributing copies at the poker conference in Cyprus.
