Has anybody ever driven a lot of traffic from Social Network Sites?

I just feel like a lot of the effort put forth has not really payed off since I enjoy the aspect of having a presence on sites like twitter and facebook but have never really seen a substantial output of traffic come from these sites. Has anybody seen a different result and if so how?

    Same story here.

I haven't seen tangible conversions from social networking, but it can't hurt to maintain the presence.

It really depends on the people who befriend you on those sites. If you get a lot of people who are not into online gaming then it really defeats the purpose. That is why I always try to find those people who list playing games online as one of their favorite things to do. Then I request them to be my friend/follow me etc. I have actually talked some of them through signing up and making a deposit at poker rooms before on facebook.

    +1 on the last post...

At the last count, well over 10,000 clicks for something like 8 registrations and no deposits.

Also, greetings from the new boy!

i'm a fan of using social networking sites for web marketing but the problem is social media traffic is known for bad conversion.

unless you create a specific platform for a targeted audience on the social networking site, chances are they were not in that mindset when they come across your link... so they will surf and not convert.

I use them as well. Gets me some traffic, but no conversions. But I refuse to give up.

I think you are missing the point

You are forgetting one thing. You won’t always see direct traffic coming from there or conversions. Chances are you will never know how they got to you.
It’s more like making yourself a name, making your brand known. Once they know you are there, they will come if they are interested, though you can obviously help them get there.
The beauty of social networking is through recommendations. For example, my friend on FB told me that Calvin Ayre is a cool guy and even owns Bodog and that I should check out his site calvinarye.com. He might even post on my wall a direct link to the site.
I will then copy paste it/type directly in my url or click on the link. If I am that incompetent I might go to google and search for clavinayre.
Basically you will never know that I got to you through FB, through social networking.

@LuckyLizzy - You are right to a certain extent but it is great to have b/c these can be potential new customers, and you can have a first shot at them too. You can possibly bring in new customers to the industry. Besides taking away players from competition the goal/dream of all the big ones, Bodog Partygaming etc. is to bring new customers into this industry.

    Why I love social media!

Social Media is currently an untamed beast! Some things are working fabulously - at my previous company we used Facebook to cross sell free play products that we were not allowed to advertise to the target audience we were trying to attract, and then spent loads of time on retaining these users, and educating them to convert to highly profitable players.

I think the intrinsic value in social media is a form of controlled branding, it's about getting people to talk about your brand, refer it to other like minded people, and from there - create a campaign that promotes conversion out of the genuine interest this mini community creates.

I have read some fantastic articles on social media as a medium and how to harness it , and I do believe that through trial and error - there is definately solid value to be had.

The thing I love about it - is that you can be totally creative - there are still innovations to be had, new ways to create interest and trial conversion, and this is what excites me about the channel.

I highly recommend reading some of Marta Kagan's Social media presentations - I found them quite entertaining and rather insightful.

In the words of Dory - " just keep swimming, just keep swimming" innovation is the key to success!

    Socail networks

@Lee-Ann - True and that is also why direct navigation is growing on the expense of search engines. The more the Socail networks grow the less their is a need for search engines, though they will always be needed.

It easy peasy to drive boatloads or traffic from social media sites, but they produce a near 0% conversion level. Its certainly an enigma as in theory people are coming to your site or landing page with a level of interest and one would think that would generate a reasonable level of conversions.

Sites like Facebook and Twitter are all about customer engagement, getting that direct conversation going with your customers is invaluable. They will also help with retention as they serve as a constant reminder of your product, and, assuming you're sending out engaging messages, they will remind players to come back.

The jury for us is still out as to whether significant growth can be made using these platforms, although, allbeit on a smaller scale, Facebook advertising is working better than other PPC channels on a CPA basis.

    social sites vs traffic

    On this note

I have tried facebook and twitter with no tangible or positive results.
I have built large gambling related fan and group pages.

I would certainly be interested in any other ideas as to how to leverage good targeted traffic from the social arena and if good traffic is not available, how can we use social networks to our advantage?

Lets put our heads together guys and gals and see what we can do to make more money from these tools!!!

Feel free to IM or mail me if you would like to chat more

    Best wishes

Traffic from Facebook and Twitter are minimal at times.

I believe the most traffic I get comes from my websites Facebook group Page.
When I send out an email update to the members within the Backroom Gaming Facebook Group, feedback is good.

Status updates on my main FB page doesn't always do it. lol
