Question Have you migrated to Google Universal Analytics?

Way back in October 2012 Google announced its plans to extend Google Analytics to better support the modern world where consumers use multiple devices, including mobile devices, and where measurement across channels is increasingly important. You can see the announcement here: Re-imagining Google Analytics to support the versatile usage patterns of today's users. Just over a year ago, in March 2013, the announcement was made that Universal Analytics was in beta: Expanding Universal Analytics into Public Beta. Finally, a couple months ago, Google announced general commercial availability to everyone: Universal Analytics: Out of beta, into primetime.

You can find out more by visiting the Universal Analytics Upgrade Center here: developers.google.com/analytics/devguides/collection/upgrade/.

The migration is a two-step process. First you have to switch to Universal Analytics for a site. After that you can then migrate to use the new Universal Analytics tracking code to take advantage of additional features.

So, for this week's poll I thought I'd ask folks whether they have migrated to the new version yet. And if you have, please share with us your views about what is interesting about the new version. Personally, I think the univerals user ID is interesting, especially for those webmasters with multiple promotion channels (multiple websites, email newsletters, mobile apps, etc.) where tracking usage across channels is interesting.

I do not use Google Analytics at all. I am not willing to have the site that delivers me traffic also monitoring my traffic. Too too dangerous to give them that much power IMO.

    Michael,

Initially we tried to use the universal analytics but it did not work for us. It was unable to verify the stats on our website for some reasons.

However, the existing version of Google Analytics work well for us.

My understanding is that it is no longer in beta. According to Google the transition to commercial release happened in April 2014.

    I wish I knew.

I tried to migrate to Universal Analytics but couldn't find the button or link to do it. The Google guide on how to do it is crazy, doesn't explain anything. It tells me where to click but I can't find it.

That happens a lot with Google. They have guides how to do things but they are outdated. They keep changing the tools and the places where you can find everything.

A lot of technical stuff on the net is outdated.

I tried to migrate to Universal Analytics but couldn't find the button or link to do it. The Google guide on how to do it is crazy, doesn't explain anything. It tells me where to click but I can't find it.
    did you look here?

    https://support.google.com/analytics.../2817075?hl=en

When I changed over it was still in beta so I set up new properties in GA as Google recommended.
Been a while though and I forget why I switched to it but I think it had something to do with an Adwords feature I wanted to try.

    Maybe remarketing?

No, I haven't converted my sites to Universal Analytics yet. I plan on doing so in the coming weeks.

*sigh* I hate it when GA changes. I'm sure the intended effect is to improve things, but the usual result is I have to spend the next few days figuring out where the stats I want to see are now....
