    Good catch AK,

I have used the spam-o-matic method on the individual and chose soft delete to show that this form of spamming BS posts just to earn links with the appropriate keywords will not be tollerated and that we are becoming more aggressive in removing this kind of stuff.....

    Haha, nice try.

Just to make this thread a little useful. For people who actually want to increase PR. Do not worry about it, just concentrate on rankings and if you have a PR1 or PR5 it does not really matter.

Google is no longer updating its Public PR. It has an internal PR, which Google only sees, and there is no way to find out what PR you are on. The last Google PR update was 10 months ago, and it usually occurs every 4 months.

I would also like to disagree with this. Google updates it's PR quarterly.

@rak, perhaps the google PR algorithm has been tweaked so nobody with a very simple unnatural technique for boosting it would play on it. I've noticed some sites that've actually increased their PR based on the quarterly update, which @meagan pointed out. What I am saying is, getting a PR increase has become a little harder nowadays, thus, I think, only those with diversified backlink profile can actually enjoy it as oppose to the previous situation where in acquiring a PR 2 for a page only requires a few backlinks which are acquired from pages with actual PR of 2.

Indeed i have to agree with the others, my PageRank increased on two of my domains just the other week. Also, it doesnt just get released every few months, it's different for everyone as it must be updated across billions of domains.

Getting PR is not necessarily what you need... PR means nothing (as has been stated above).

To get PR "all you need to do" is get incoming links - DO FOLLOW links to your website!

Two of my new sites last year jumped up to pr 1 within the first couple months from agressive seo practices. Now I have lost my pr and there back to 0. Sucks, going to take it more slower on this time around

To get the High PR you have to be sure with the following things.

    1) Strong and unique contents.
    2) Strong Keywords.
    3) Link buildings.
    4) More and more backlinks.

Why is it that every forum I participate in ALWAYS has an active long thread about how to get a higher PR?

Please, stop obsessing over toolbar page rank - it is a useless metric to be calculating your online success with, fact!

I agree, I wish these threads would go away, but I doubt they ever will.

The seo wannabe's always want the threads to exist, it gives them a way to pretend to show that they know more than they do (sadly though many just don't understand they most of us see through the smoke and morrors here).

It also gives them a thread with the appropriate keywords in it containing a backlink.

WARNING: for those that try that here we are becoming more aggressive all the time in curtailing this method, removing the posts and or associated backlinks and banning those using this method. (even if the threads are days, weeks or months old)

The KEY: Become active members of our community, show a genuine interest in the industry and the discussions that take place here and LEARN from the cummunity.

Besides, the threads are often quite entertaining especially when the wannabe's are trying to sell a service they know nothing about....LOL

I blame Google for it. If PR is as useless as everyone says it is, why doesn't Google just get rid of it and avoid the confusion among webmasters?

People just use wrong association, example: "Youtube has a PR9, therefore If I get a PR of 9 my site will as successful as theirs" . I think that's how lots of people look at it. And therefore instead of focusing on the value of your content pretty soon you start focusing on buying links, keyword stuffing and all sorts of seo practices that might boost your PR, but could degrade the user experience.

Why not just get rid of the external PR, giving equality among sites with similar content..

You see, Google does NOT want to get rid of it...

    Why?

The simple answer is this discussion.

They sit back and laugh all the way to the bank when they see active threads like this one, knowing full well the toolbar pr is not near as important as so many other factors, but it is the pr that gets discussed the most.

Like I said earlier, it's entertaining and when the seo wannabe's place a lot of emphasis on it, it also helps me determine how uptodate they are.

    Hmm,
But they did make a public statement on their blog about the Duplicated Content myth and that they don't punish such sites, because that was a greatly discusses topic as this one no?

Wouldn't the removal of the PR let people focus on quality something they want every site to focus on?

The smarter webmasters and SEO people DO focus more on quality content.

But Google wants the discussions to continue, because THERE BRAND is synomymous with all discussions PR related and they do NOT want that to end.

The discussions and controversy about the stupid little green bar probably do more for them now then when they first envisioned it's release....lol
