Question How did 2013 revenue compare with 2012 revenue for you?

Now that 2013 has drawn to a close it is time to do an annual poll to ask how the affiliate revenue you earned in 2013 compared to what you earned in 2012.

How did it change? Did it get better, stay the same, or get worse for you?

And posts about your thoughts for the changes you have seen and your view of what the future holds are welcome. Do you think the changes between the two years is due to general business changes, to changes you have made to your sites, to a change in your level of effort, or something else?

For me 2013 was 1048,93% better than 2012. But 2012 was my first year and it was more a side project. In 2013 I made it my main business.

2013 was a great year. In February I went to my first conference, the LAC. Since then I go to all the igb affiliate conferences.
    -Learned a lot
    -Met many new people
    -Earned good money
    -Went to many parties
    -But worked even more!

    Up in the 11-20% range.

I had a large drop off in 2010 relative to 2009, and I've been at those same levels from 2010 to 2012. 2013Q4 was my best quarter since 2009Q4, and it was because of that quarter that I finished 2013 at +18% relative to 2012.

It's difficult to pinpoint the reason why I had a better year than last year. The obvious reason is that I got several new players in Q3 and Q4, all from the US. But I didn't put in significantly more work than in past quarters, didn't add marketing budget, didn't change my general strategy for attracting new players, etc.

In the 2013, I suspect that people in the US that are interested in online gambling heard about Nevada legalizing online poker, about New Jersey legalizing online casinos, and about other states looking into one or both of online poker and online gambling. I think hearing this news allayed their fears of being prosecuted for online gambling, and so they decided it was time to try it out for themselves. But that's just my $0.02.

For me it was about 23% better than 2012. So not bad, compering to a really good 2012, when I almost doubled my revenue.

My revenue stayed more or less the same. While some older sites took a hit in the serps, other newer sites compensated for them. I've also started promoting a few more affiliate programs so that I don't rely too much on a small handful of programs.

2013 was a year in which I didn't care for my gambling business and pulled all the money from it and invested it in other projects. I've made a creative mess, and this year my job is to consolidate everything. Pretty cool if you look at it from a certain perspective.

My gambling revenue dropped but that was the price to pay.

I started my website before 2013 but I made the first revenue in this year. I look forward to answering this question next year and I hope that I can join the "over 50%" bar then! Cheers

Decent gains for me too, mainly due to a buttload of new sites.

Wow look at the pool results, 51% for "Revenue grew more than 50% in 2013." Can this be true?

The sample of those who voted is not necessarily representative of all affiliates.

Maybe affiliates who have obtained excellent results have been more motivated to participate in the survey.

Yes, indeed. A participation of only 0,15 % of all GPWA members obtain not a representative voting result.

I don't see any value for a webmaster to post a "negative" result. Everybody wants to be a "winner" in public, beating his chest like a Silverback Gorilla.

The simple fact: 99,85 % of all members obviously are unable or unwilling to vote, for whatever reason.

Maybe the voting should have been only open to those who have been affiliates for more than 2 years. The results are meaningless.

I had a huge gain in revenue year over year. In 2013 I finally finished my MBA which gave me the time to spend working on my websites fulltime and it really paid off. Also I launched my first casino websites in late 2012 (previously did all poker) so by March of last year they were really starting to take off. I got lucky that the casino sites performed extremely well and although my main site got penalized my Google, I had enough "support sites" that I didn't have to completely start over and start from scratch.

If I could double 2013's revenue in 2014 I would be a happy kid!

Our net change in profits was 68.6 and the primary reason for this is we expanded into 3 new markets and went with local contractors there who obviously provide us with more accurate content. In 2012 we spent some money buying up existing non english websites and that paid off for us.I think another factor we have changed is to switch up the order of casinos we work with and found other programs who converted our traffic and had higher retentions than old partners.I pulled this data off our accounting program and one big savings was 13.6% of our year profit and that was to go over all expenses and see where we could cut costs.I have to admit we have been a bit careless and loose in the past and getting organized and setting out employee roles without our business has helped us become more efficient.

For getting a "close to reality" results you must have at least 15% votes whole affiliates out there (not only gpwa members)
and also this can't be accurate because usually when survey is run by experts (this is their job) they choose
a part in a specific population which represent the whole.

Its a great poll but I would take the results here by limited liability

Going for fairly broad terms in an exceptionally competitive market with some really dominant well established sites, just adding more content and allowing the site to age has really improved my traffic. Alongside this we did a tune up on the code recently (it was a real mess due to some poor hires for programming) and it's made a difference to our bounce rate/time on site/average page views but most substantially to our conversion. Hope 2014's really going to make the site what I've been working towards.
