worth mentioning - if you're using lighthouse for chrome to measure site speed + other related metrics, make sure to run it in INCOGNITO MODE, so that other plugins do not run while lighthouse is running (eg nofollow/dofollow plugins and the like which modify the dom] - this can make a big difference, but isn't obvious...

Hosting is one of the most important things to consider. Make sure you have a fast hosting, preferably with a server in the country you are targeting. I recommend using Cloudways. They are really fast and have gotten my website to load in under 1 sec.

If you're targeting several countries I would recommend installing Cloudflare.

If you already have a good hosting and would like to reduce the load time, then you can do it yourself by entering your URL in either Pingdom or GTmetrix. However, if you're not that comfortable with technical issues, then I recommend a service called wpspeedfix . com. I've used them for my affiliate sites in the past and they were able to reduce my loading time significantly.

I have some WordPress websites, I was facing loading issues with my previous shared hosting but when I moved to Cloudways managed WordPress hosting, the speed is much improved and loading time is under 3 seconds, I will suggest you to try managed hosting.

Use Cloud-flare or other CDN. Minification of all files and use PageSpeed Insights by google - very useful.

To increase website speed, use Google insights tool. This tool tells where the site controls the speed. It tells about the image optimization, minifed css, java script, etc.

In order to increase the site speed, we do the following:

    1. Insert a cache plugin
    WP Fastest Cache is famous.

    2. Optimize the image
Since images are easy to take up space, we have optimized the weight using plug-ins.
    (Image Optimizer etc.)

3.Reduce plug-ins as much as possible
Use a theme that has many functions to replace plug-ins, and reduce the number of plug-ins installed.
The risk of trouble interference can also be reduced.

If anyone is still seeking some answers under this topic, I'd recommend to get a good hosting and CDN. I've always had a good experience with Siteground. Besides, install plugins that optimizes html and css; minify has been effective for me. Always optimize the images through tools like tinypng.
