How the industry could still screw up online gaming in the U.S.

GPWA Managing Editor Vin Narayanan (aka vinism) said the Department of Justice's opinion on the Wire Act removes a legal and political obstacle for online gaming in the United States. But it doesn't ensure online gaming is suddenly going to dot the American landscape.

Vin outlined 10 ways the gaming industry could screw up regulated online gaming in the U.S. It's a comprehensive (over 2,000 words) piece and a must-read for those who are interested in the future of American Internet gambling.

The article is very well written and from the looks of things it might still take a while before only gambling will be legalized. It seems like every Tom, Dick, and Harry gambling company is jockeying for position causing the implementation process to fail before it has even begun.

The bottom line is don't get your hopes up yet. As the old saying goes: "The job ain't done until the paper work is finished."

Yet the legislative process is treating online casinos like a poor cousin they don't want at the dinner table.

Not to be cynical but the laws are going to follow the money. If they (the gov't) can squeeze a dime out of it, they will at some point legalize it. It's just there are so many varied interests (vegas casinos, native american casinos, the individual states, players, etc) that it has many rounds to go before something is settled. Someone may not be happy but the bigger powers that be will more than likely get their way, whatever it is. Currently I'll just focus on overseas players and when the US market is officially "legally" open, then the free for all will begin.
