How many icons do you have on your desktop?

Last week, when we asked how many desktop application windows you normally have open at once, Jarvi made the following suggestion:

Michael, a future poll could be how many icons on the desktop.

Vin and I agreed this would be a good question to ask this week. Personally, my computer desktop is quite a bit cleaner than the desk in my office. My computer desktop has a total of 17 icons all neatly arranged into several distinct areas based on function. Vin's computer desktop, on the other hand, is pretty much filled with icons organized in no particular order - a total of 202 of them.

So, vote in the poll to show how many desktop icons you have, and be sure to also post your philosophy about icon use and organization.

I cleared some poker rooms off my desk top recently - today's count is 45 icons in total.

My icons are sorted by type/function - across the top and down both sides - the center is left clear and that's where my browser window sits.

Well I had better reply to this one I guess. I tend to keep my computer desktop the same as my physical desktop which is pretty sparse. During the day I have a few more icons for things I am working on, however, come the end of the day I file or discard them. The philosophy being that the less you have in front of you the less distractions.

I also have folders set up for each day of the week to put documents that I need to follow up with etc. That way I check the day and see what I need to attend to. Same goes for my email. The inbox is nearly empty and I just move the emails to the day I wish to deal with them.

I change the background every now and then however it's always something pretty basic. This was the previous one. I love my Vans and this was my first pair from twenty something years ago that I still have.

Had you asked last week i would have lost count trying to count them as the whole screen was full.

A couple of days ago i decided to make a folder to hold the ones i dont use, now i have the folder filled with the ones i dont use and the recycle bin, thats all thats on my desktop!

I have 38, well 39 if you include the recycle bin. Some are direct access to applications, others are folders for different things. Poker sites, casinos, newsletters I send, templates, codes and shortcuts to codes I use when writing pages, makes an easy way to find the things I need to. Sort of a filing cabinet if you will.

I have considered removing many of them as I use Vista and can open an application by typing in the name in the find function from the "Start" menu.

I add they are also organized by type of application too and in neat rows and columns. A method to my madness I reckon.

Less than ten on one machine. But if you asked how many computing devices I operate at once it would be more than ten. Tempted to post a picture but am a bit embarrassed some may thing I am Neil from the Matrix lol.

My desktop is a mess. I would say over 100 icons, and I try and clean it once every 3 months, but i use so many programs. Cant wait for windows 7 to hopefully sort me out

I have 25 on my desktop. I rarely launch anything from my desktop (must be habit), but I do [Pin] my favorite applications (sixteen of them) that show when I click the [Start] button.

I only have 6 on mine, that is the one part of the computer I like to keep clean.

I used to be an iconoholic then about a year ago I converted to the Mac side of things and cut down on the desktop clutter.

Just 15 here, I try not to have many.. although if you ask how many tabs in a browser ?,, well... thats a bit higher number.. around 25?!

I was at 182 when this poll started and that is the amount I voted as, but I've now done some initial cleanup of files I don't use anymore and it is down to 68 now. Cleaned up to how I'd ideally like it I think will put it around 50. I prefer to open documents from the desktop rather than the start menu or the task bar.

Jeez, and I thought I was bad with 74. I had to change my wallpaper to a solid colour so I wouldn't lose icons.
