Default how much do you spend on content?

Just had a nice conversation with some friends and they talked about $1K to $2K new content budget a month. they also said they upload 1-2 new articles a week.

Now I know that the price depend on quality and word count, but fact is their sites are performing well. but still, it seems to me like a very small amount to pay for 8 articles. I'm paying around 3K for content

so how much do you spend?

Hi, I think it depends on quality and leght of article. Seems you and your friends buy very long articles over 5000 words and maybe more? Most copy writers count for 100 words and prices depends on quality.

Pretty subjective, for example we pay anywhere from .05 per word to .20 per word - depends on the experience and quality of the writer. Content writing is a supply and demand market, right now I'd say there is far more demand than supply for high quality content writers.

Couldn't agree more, the question is do we really need SUPER high quality content? At the end of the day we publish content for our users, but it is Google who chooses what good for the user. So whats wrong with "just" good content?

Good content is very subjective opinion or count of value. Who is th best content giver?

The situation has changed dramaticalyy over the last couple of months. It is not anymore how you spen on content writing, but how much on SEo optimization?
Take a look at sites , which have beeen developed with not that much content on them, but rank well with some automatic scripts and feeds.

What I spend from month to month can vary, I don't have a fixed budget I stick too. You can spend $1000 or $5000 a month on content, it dosn't make you anymore lkely to rank than someone who spends way less. It's about good quality content and good seo combined, one without the other is futile imo.

Very true. Although both content and marketing are important, I'd rather spend more time and money to promote the site than adding more content.

Publish quality content to impress your visitors first and search engines second. The other way around is futile. Good SEO, link strategy, speed of your website are also very important.

I believe right content strategy is just as important as quality content.

You can get high-quality content on the topic that either does not get too many searches or is covered by hundreds of websites and chances are you will struggle to rank for the same unless you have a very high authority website.

But, if you find a topic that many others have overseen and cover it in great detail, you can rank well and attract a fair share of visitors to your website.

To sum it up, content strategy and quality content together with proper SEO can go a long way.

I currently hire three writers and total cost per month is around 1500.

That equates to around 25 articles per week.

It totally depends on the volume, quality, and research of the article.
Despite the others, I'd say content is the king. Good content would always bring traffic.
Some people stated that in the end, Google is the one who chooses, and "good" content is subjective.
I don't say that backlinks or other SEO tricks are not powerful.
What I mean is, if you have good content, it would eventually rank. Furthermore, if you are at least trying to provide unique content that adds value to the people, you will never ever get BIG hit by algorithm updates.

    So what is good content?

Good content is an article providing honest information that adds MORE values to its readers.

    How can you get one?

Check out your keyword, and do some research, analyse the first top 10 sites. Could you or your writers provide better information than the page ranking at the top? Are you good with managing your writers, could you define them what you need and give them the proper KW research which will be used for people to read not for robots? If you can, you have good content.

To answer your question, it depends.
Do you have a wide task that requires loads of research and KW's? That would cost.
Do you want to get honest casino reviews where writers are TRULY opening accounts and playing, testing their customer service? That would cost.
Do you have a huge volume that you order articles on a regular basis? Good, then you have a chance to negotiate on the price and outsource some content for cheaper.
In which language do you need the content? Should that be written by a native speaker or someone who has a foreign language degree?

All these factors are defining the cost of the content. Just to give you a specific answer, I think a content at least should be an average of 1,200 words. The best would be a 2,500+. If you post an article every day, it would cost you an average of €40-50. If you get 30 well-researched articles per month that would AVERAGELY cost you between €1,200 - €1,500 per month.

I spend about $2k/site per month. But dear colleagues correctly wrote - it all depends on the language and quality, as well as on the level of qualification of the copywriter.
