Question How much of the time you spend on content is on updates and how much on new content?

Every successful iGaming has a focus, and provides content for visitors related to that focus. Updating existing content and adding new content are regular activities for most webmasters.

For some types of content, like current news, the focus is always on creating new material. For other types of content some effort might be on adding new information and some effort might be on updating existing information.

How about for your site? What percent of the time you spend working on content is adding new content and what percent is updating existing content?

And be sure to post and let us know the type of content you work on and why the split between adding and updating content works out the way it does for your site.

I said 50% new content, 50% updates for our GPWA/Casino City staff.

We currently have an editorial team with four members, with two part-time, so the equivalent of three people full-time. I'd say pretty much 100% of their effort is new content development in the form of news and other articles.

We also have a content research team that does research related to both land and online gaming. That group has about a dozen full-time employees. Most of their work is related to updating general information we already have to be current, but they also are involved in many research projects to gather new information. So I'd say 1/3rd of their work is gathering new information and 2/3rds is updating existing information. One example of new information gathering we are currently doing is building-level geocoding for all of the land-based gaming properties in the world so we can accurately show their locations on a map. Another example from this past year is gathering information about payment processing options for online gaming sites. An example of updating existing information is surveying online and land-based gaming sites for changes in the information we have about them.

Overall, that works out to be about a 50/50 split between content updates and new content development.

I had to go with 70% new 30% updates as I am now blogging the new promos. The focus changes depending on the time of the month, how many sites are doing new promos and how many have changes in old promotions. I am now writing a new site so I guess it is now about 95% new as the site is so young. Once I have the base cntent written I will revert back to the old 70/30. I never would have imagined the amount of time that keeping a site fresh takes.

I voted 50/50 but this is on an ideal day, as I find that I spend so much time answering emails, deleting spam and fixing broken links.
My pet hatred is when casinos change tracking links without notifying the affiliate and without doing a redirect on the old links. I used to painstakingly sit changing the links - now I just remove the casinos! I have become quite ruthless in that aspect. As far as I am concerned if the casino cannot bother to notify me of changes then I can't be bothered to host them on my sites. It's as simple as that !

I went for 70% new content and 30% updating.

However, I too find that more and more of my working time is spent with administration, deleting spam and answering emails.

I'm with Topboss on the changin links scenario. If a casino doesn't tell me and give me plenty of time to change links then they get pulled. My time is much better spent in other ways rather than constantly catching up with changing links.

60%/40%. But it may vary, it depends on the time of the month and my plans. Now I'm working on updates almost 100% of my time.

I voted 80 - 20. Now that I use my blog for promoting time limited/sensitive promotions I find I can easily squeeze 80% of my time for new content.

Me too, I've been using a blog for the time sensitive promotions as well. It's the easiest format for me to use to quickly place content I get form emails from the casinos. I think it works well, it's easy to pipe that into RSS for other sites.
