We do update our Sitemap content more often than others. It does complement our other normal methods. Since we do all our SEO and content management in house, it becomes easier to control. We do update our "products" page weekly, and pages like our "about us" monthly. It depends on hierarchical importance for us. Like if the home page would be the most important, the category pages to follow and blog entries or others to follow.
So it’s a good mix and match strategy that wins the day. Its steady, though definite.

Daily. An easy to use tool that I have found very useful is Texty. It offers a wysiwyg editor and includes the option for a message board as well. It's a free service and you simply paste a javascript code on your site and it propagates what you created at Texty.com When you update the content on Texty.com it automatically updates on your site. It's helpful to use if you are away from your home computer and if you don't want to create your own message board or code.
Daily. We use a CMS (TYPO3) which makes updating quite easy, provided you have some content to update and time to do it. We update the news part at least once a day. As for the rest - reviews of casinos, games etc. - it depends on available time. Currently I am extremely busy with few things not related to gambling, so the updating is not going on as well as it should.
I am trying to update daily or on every other day at least.
Usually I do a "todo" list for each month at the beginning of the month, and try to stick with the various updates I need to do.
Unfortunately sometimes real life things come in and I cannot fulfill my plan, but then I try to fall into line with the todos next day.
I update parts of my websites more often than others. I have a blog for the time sensative bonuses, and the other more general info is updated less frequently. I spend about 70% of the time generating new content. The rest of the time I spend updating the outdated content.
I update my site about once a week. Google loves fresh content, so i try to change it at least once a week. visitors will get bored if your site always looks the same
