    I gave my Notice..

    .. one year ago!

I quit my day office job one year ago. My last day was 8/1/08.

It hasn't been easy. I was scared! But with everything that's happened I am lucky there are two gambling webmasters in the household, with my joe. I've been holding my own but not sure I could have been brave enough without him so thanks my joe. You rock with everything you do for Everyone! I'm sure there are folks here that can attest to that.

I don't think I could ever go back though. I would actually have to set the alarm clock??

Who is doing this full-time and who is thinking about it?

Congrats to you mojo! I know it's a wonderful feeling and I thank God everyday for the opportunity to do what I love and hope to get better as time goes on.

I'm happy to say that I cut my ties to corporate america about 4 years ago and I'm thankful that I don't have to deal with the traffic, on the job hassles and a boss anymore!

I remember at the end actually taking a portal tv in to watch my soaps and they were cool with it! LOL

Thanks Robin. One of the perks is getting to know my fellow webmasters like yourself. Whether in person or not, we get to meet people all over the world and I feel priviledged.

I have also come to a greater understanding of how it is proper to disagree with an opinion and how not to.

I think we did this at the same time Robin and I am grateful for that.

Live and learn together. I also think the GPWA was a HUGE influence on me. I learned so much!

    Congrats Mojo !

You have earned everything you have worked for.

Keep up the good work and one day all of your dreams will come true.

I'd take 12 hour on the computer over 8 hours at the office any day of the week !

    Congrats!

it's been 11 years, 4 months since i've had a job. The first 3 years i made nothing. i got into gaming in july 2001 and started earning nearly a living in 2002. from 2003-2006 I was walking in the clouds. Since then things have been less enriching, but it's still pays better than any other job i've had and has let me try all kinds of ideas along the way.

Congrats Mojo, don't blink, before you know it, it will be 10 years and the idea of a regular JOB will make you either laugh or cry, but you sure won't want one!

Yep, I agree mojo and I'm so glad that we have learned from our experiences how to agree to disagree when necessary. I've always respected you and agree with you most of the time. Who knows maybe one day we will be online BFF's! hehe

I hear ya AmCan! Alot of us were walking on clouds up until 2006, but I'm confident we will be dancing on a few of them again in the near future. Atleast that's what keeps me motivated these days! I can't believe how much money I wasted back then.

I have been an entrepreneur all my working life and can't imagine working for someone else.

Of the varied enterprises I launched, this one is definitely my favorite and I plan to stay with it instead of selling it.

Most projects got boring after they were all built up and I'd sell. This one is ever changing and keeps me interested and motivated.

I just love working from home...

You are fortunate in that regard Dom.

My biggest hurdle working outside the home was boredom and a routine. In our role we wear many hats and it never gets boring because the to-do list is forever growing allowing me to pick and chose what I want to work on any given day. Can't see myself doing anything else in this lifetime.

I even get pajamas for Christmas presents now and it's great.

    Grats to all !!

I also love this vertical, been on my own since 1999. However, my IM is much more then gaming, so earns me steady checks. Is fun, with all the different pay dates and arrangements, almost everyday something comes in.

Maybe the GPWA should add a "Other IM" section so we can chat about things besides gaming that brings in cash..?

    Well, again Congrats !!

Thanks guys. I never thought I'd be able to enjoy this much freedom. It's also been a godsend since I often off at hospitals and drs with family members. I don't have to ask anyone for a day off or inconvenience my co-workers.

I do miss my co-workers though. I was used to seeing them every day. But not enough to go back!

I just started this a couple months ago. May to be exact. Scrapped my first website, redesigned it and started a 2nd one to compare marketing techniques/results. My friends think I'm crazy but I don't care. I got my first check last week, $75 woohoo! lol, and will get another one next month. I haven't had many full time jobs in my life and plan on this, and other web ventures, being my "job" in the future.

Congrats Mojo! But not to burst your bubble, but I bet you work harder now than you did in the corporate world, even without setting an alarm clock! But at least you get to keep the riches!

I really enjoy my job in the corp world... but there are times I wish I could work for myself (and likewise, many times I want to ditch my sites because I am frustrated!).

    What's an "alarm clock"?

I'm actually a little ahead of you, my last day chained to a desk 8-5 was May 2nd last year.
I had 4 OK months, then 6 great months, finally 3 pretty crap months. Fortunately the 6 great months will keep me going until the end of the year, but I might have to tighten my belt a bit if things don't improve...

Anyway - congratulations on making a successful start!

your not alone of thinking of ditching your sites Matted as it has past thru my mind several times.

I really dont think I can give up my day job to do this, because I am not as good as many of you and Im not seeing a decent steady earning.
I do have the summers off( love it) but in September I go back.
I also find myself sitting way too much and I miss not socializing with my friends/co-workers.
Maybe someday I will be at the stage where I am making a decent earning and my thoughts will change but for now I find this as a hobbie.

Congrats gary and we will be welcoming you to our pajama club. That's what I ask for Christmas/birthdays too Robin.

I do work longer ours matt and have developed a night owl syndrom. I'm up until the wee hours. I think it's my natural clock that has been yearning to be free.

It's definatly liberating to have my own hours and come and go as I please. I've been working since 11 and I feel pretty fortunate. Dedicating myself to this though has given me a different outlook. I think I take things a bit more seriously then when I was part time.

Congrats to you too KK. My stats sounds about the same as yours. Mine were outstanding at first, best ever, but lately it's kinda gone down the tubes but hanging in.

Now instead of co-workers, you get to deal with us
And I love it Anthony. I think we need to set up a coffee break room. We can gossip and complain about the boss. Wait.. we don't have a boss.

    Thanks everyone!
