    Default Ireland set to introduce online gaming tax

    Ireland's Minister for Finance Michael Noonan is set to introduce a new taxation scheme targeting remote based gaming and sports betting operators.

    It looks like a variant of the UK offshore gambling law.

    It's targeting bookmakers, expects to raise around EUR 25m a year, and 6m will go towards grants / handouts towards the Irish horse bloodstock industry. Probably a vote winner - it involves handouts, - and locally registered bookmakers like Paddy Power will like it.

    It will be interesting to see the costs and the tax percentage - and whether offshore bookmakers can be bothered with the compliance costs. A market of 4.5m people, not huge - but potentially lucrative.
