Join my expedition from the UK?

Ok as a few on here know, i am petrified of flying! I have had support here with my fear and considered flying twice recently, once to a stag do in Barcelona and then to CAC Amsterdam! On both occasions within 24 hours of me considering there has been a plane crash! So, working on the principle that it is not safe for me to consider it i am going by land and maybe water.

With this in mind, i am planning to either drive over via Dover - Calais or may even go by chuffer through the tunnel as there is some good deals going for that option at present.

Anyone else taking this option? If so would anyone fancy sharing the journey with me? Maybe save on the environment or just save me from boring myself silly on the journey.

I am open to ideas, however, please - no one try to get me flying, as it is clearly not safe for anyone flying tommorrow.

    Chalkie

Come on take a flight, i will br flying from Costa Rica take a total of 26 hours to get fromSan Jose to Amsterdam, I think from the UK it take 45 minutes.

Have a few pints before you board and few more beers on the plane and then when you land make you way to one of those bars and have a local cig to calm your nerves.

    Sorted.

What time on the 29th do you need to be there?

I dont mind travelling early on the 29th and would happily pick you up and share the fuel, ferry fees etc. I reckon it is about a 14 hour trip inc a break from mine via pompey to the dam.

Or even meet up at Waterloo or something for the eurostar.

We can talk about your luck at Wembley in the FA cup semi final

If you are set on a plane though i will understand.

Train will take a while - about 12 hrs door to door with waits - but Eurostar is a fantastic way to travel. Then you can switch to the high speed Thasys from Paris.

By the way, this is an amusing (if old) threaded discussion on the chances of dying if you have some minutes spare.

PLAY UP POMPEY POMPEY PLAY UP

Wow thats a long old trip for someone who doesnt travel in cars too well isnt it. Im ok if im sat in the passenger seat with the window open.(I know pomp is a bit of a pussy really despite his DILLIGAF attitude)

The flight is £127 return and 1hr 15mins so I think it best to to go by wing really.
You never know I may actually enjoy my 1st plane trip but if I dont then book me with you for next year for sure.

As for the semi final it was a sweet occassion as the enemies mum comes from Dudley and is one of the 6 nationwide Baggies fans haha

i have done the Hook to Hull crossing, quite a nice route but overnight if i remember correctly and quite expensive.

Dover - Calais/Dunkirque is only a 2 hour sailing and very very cheap too. Last time i looked was about £18 return with a car and 5 passengers. Fuel on top and it is probably still cheaper option.

I love driving and especially on the wrong side of the road too. probably need to start out 3 days early though for the 47 trips round the amsterdam ring road before i find where i am going.

Chalkie has a fear of flying and thats a real bad thing, i have seen up close how people react that have a fear or worse a phobia, they are as scared as if a nutter with an axe was chopping at them

Anyway going by train and ferry would be a blast i reckon, get well sloshed, tell stories and abuse Arsenal, if i was in blighty i would have joined you Chalkie, but cannot make CAC this year so have a pint in my honour.
