    Legality Issues

Can anyone comment on legality issues for portal operators? Is this business legal right now? How do you deal with taxes, domain registration, incorporation, etc? Is it legal to receive payments from these casinos? How do you report it on taxes (if at all?). If you are doing several thousand dollars of revenue a month (or more) are the issues increased? DO you need to register your company somewhere else, host somewhere else, etc? Have any webmasters been prosecuted? Are there risks of suits from users that have lost? Any thoughts on how to address these and other issues?

I realize that this all could change when congress addresses this issue, but I am talking about now.

    Any other thoughts?

    Thanks!

You talk like you're from the US, but you have a UK email addy.

These issues differ from country to country, so you'd be much better off asking these questions of attorneys in your area that specialize in business formation and taxes, because none of us is qualifed to answer.

I'm not sure what you are trying to find out. Assuming it's legal in your country, you just treat it as a normal business. Domain registration, hosting, computers, internet connections, software purchases and stuff like that are allowable deductions. Affiliate payments and other payments are taxable income. You need to discuss it with an accountant.

    I mean in the US

I am referring to US laws. I have an address in the UK but I am operating for the time being in the US. Is it a legal business in the US at this point?

    Thanks

This can best be answered this way....

For now, it's not illegal, but may very well be in the near future. this is yet to be decided upon by our lawmakers. As Cindy has, said, the best thing you can do if you're in doubt is to contact an attorney. In addition to national laws, there are also state laws that come into play, so really, it depends on where you are as to the laws, because they vary.
