    Default LuckyJar Affiliates Information Request

Recently received a request for information from LuckyJar Affiliates. Of course we provide all the typical information and KYC documents however this one is over the top. Why would they need to know the name and e-mail of our accountant and a signed declaration from our accountant that we pay taxes?

    Hi there,

As we look to progress with our partnership we need to ensure certain responsibilities are met as we pay you your earnings. To make sure your earnings are being used legally we need to complete the below due diligence.
It goes without saying that with the current state of regulation and compliance in the UK market, we need your full cooperation from you on this matter. Therefore, we would like you to kindly provide us with the below up to date information:

    1. Company Name
    2. Company Full Address
    3. Country of company’s registration
    4. Company’s registration Number
    5. Contact details of your finance team/accountant (email address)
    6. Formal confirmation of your websites and the marketing channels you are currently using to promote our brands.
    7. Signed declaration from your accountant (or financial manager) that you are paying taxes to your local government.

In addition, UK legislation in relation to the Corporate Criminal Offence of facilitating tax evasion (either in the UK or overseas) require us to put in place certain measures.

Daub Alderney Limited operates a zero-tolerance approach to tax evasion and as part of our ongoing commitment to full compliance with this legislation we are carrying out a review of all of our suppliers and affiliates. To complete this we require from you, in addition to the above, confirmation from your accountant of your current tax status (For Limited Companies we will accept details or a link to your most recent published accounts).
This information will be used solely for the purposes of complying with UK legislation and will not be revealed to any third party.
It is important that we receive a response from you ASAP on this matter.

I received the same email and am still debating whether to supply them with this information.
As far as I am concerned, I am not based in the UK, so surely whether I pay tax or don't has got nothing to do with them, at it is up to the country I live in, to determine whether I am breaking the law or not.
At this rate we would need to be complying with every Government in the world!

When I received it I gave a wry smile.

It felt to me like one of those,
"Let's put a load of hoops out for our affiliates to jump through and see how many can't be bothered"

A nice way to reduce numbers from the affiliate program methinks.

A signed declaration from my accountant is going to cost me time and also probably I will get charged for it from my accountants.

For a program that make some bits and pieces, maybe £100 a month on a good month. Worth it? Don't think so.

I'd go back and say you show me yours and then I will show you mine.

Exactly, they're the people who reside in Alderney and going on about tax-dodging FFS.

Could you just write a letter representing yourself as your own financial manager stating that you pay taxes? Sounds like all they want is something to cover their ass.

Payments come from Gambing Wages (Gwages) so... no way in fecking HELL would I send them my ID. Not even a photo of my cat, which I do not own.

    Oh also just noticed this:

To complete this we require from you, in addition to the above, confirmation from your accountant of your current tax status (For Limited Companies we will accept details or a link to your most recent published accounts).
So just a link to the report on companies house (or equivalent if not UK) sounds like it's sufficient (ie: the accountant bit is only for sole traders).

Having said that this is something they could just look up themselves if they were that bothered...

Yeah a lot of this is them being lazy, they could easily search a lot of this themselves. At the same time they are hoping they can reduce their affiliate accounts by putting people off.

There is also a typo in the email "Daub Alderney Limited operates a zero-tolerance approach to tax evasion" they probably just meant "Daub Alderney Limited operates a zero-tolerance approach to tax" given, as RacingJim said, they reside in a tax haven.

    Those in glass houses......

They know fine well that the majority of their affiliates will not be running an LTD. Making this complicated for small time affiliates, and a nice money grab for LuckyJar.

For those of you who are not aware, Lucky Jar brands have recently been sold from what I understand.
