Mailing List - How to go about setting one up?

Hey guys and girls.

So I had a nice little chat with Chips Last night and i decided to set up a mailing list with PHPlist.. Now I would like to know where to go from here?

Iv sort of got an idea of how im going to get readers to sign up for the newsletter.

I have a couple of questions id like to ask:

• Can you customize what the subscription page looks like because it looks boring?

• If you send out newsletters do you find your conversion rate is higher and by what percentage?

• In the newsletter, what would be the key topics to mention to get those conversions up?

• Are newsletters worth the effort?

• How often would you send out a Newsletter?
